Want To Run 17” Track Wheels On Your MK8 Golf R? The 17x9” ET42 VS-5RS Has You Covered!

When the 8th generation of Volkswagen’s flagship performance car initially made its debut, it was clear that track enthusiasts were kept top of mind throughout its development. However, there was initially quite a bit of controversy and debate across the enthusiast world about if 17” wheels could clear the new larger factory 357x32mm 2-piston front brakes. Some thought that the Mk8 R would be limited to 18” wheels, while others were confident that 17” options would work. Considering our Forged VS-5RS 17x9” ET42 wheels have some of the best brake clearance offered in the VW market, we sought out to put an end to this debate.

Thankfully, because of our optimized barrel clearances, our 17” VS-5RS wheels clear without issue!

Thanks to our friends over at EQTuning, we were able to swing by their shop to do some fitment testing and laser brake scanning on their recently delivered MK8 Golf R. Once we got the car up on the lift, our Marketing Director, Yo, jumped in to walk us through the technical details of how we engineered the VW/Audi 17x9” ET42 VS-5RS to clear larger brakes, such as the ones on the MK8 Golf R.
