Anyone have experience with updated Ohlins road and track kit?

Anyone who's purchased the kit, do you know if you got both the 10mm and 12mm rear shock spacers, and which shock mount p/n you used?

View attachment 252239

Talking to Barry @ 3DM, I picked up one of the first versions of the kit, MP20 which predates any of the ones mentioned in this thread. Had a 2015 build date on the sticker. The former owner included his shock mounts, which seem to just be a different revision of the new ones I picked up from FCP. Looks like he also trimmed his bump stops.

Going through all the info I could find, the VWS MU21/MT22 kits just have a 20mm shortened body and the stiffer rear valving than the earlier revisions (looks like they went from 70/50 to 70/70 and then 70/80 for 4WD). Stock spring ID is 65mm and length is 200mm for the earlier ones, 180mm for the new ones (which are still backordered based on talking to Barry).
I have the newer kit with both spacers.

Don't worry about springs. You can buy NASCAR style springs from hypercoil and swift to fit any need.

Yep, got swift on the way. Pretty sure the spacers on mine are fine, top mount diameter looks identical, so w/e.

Probably about to order a set from 3DM soon, could get from Vorshlag next day (they are about 50 miles from me)... But it's almost $400 cheaper to get from 3DM.

Is 400/575 still a good start point for a street car? Maybe 3-4 track days a year.

Currently running some ORT RS Coilovers, decent coilovers but with a 10k/12k setup on the street it's just too stiff for my (terrible) local roads. When I drive in "nicer" areas it's bearable and on the track it's fine as well.

Anyone have an alternative contact # or email for 3DM... I've emailed twice and not heard back and I really want to go with them. Or do I just need to call?

Also what rear sway bar is everyone running with the Ohlins? I'm thinking my 27mm Neuspeed will be too much and is contributing to the harshness of my current setup.

That's why I'm at 200/336 lbs with konis. It's about as stiff as I'd want on the street.

In hindsight, I should have done a custom redshift setup to get more neg camber up front, but I was really trying not to make another car completely undrivable on the street.

Give him a call, he's 50/50 even on the other email that isn't listed on the site. Really recommend talking to him.

Yep I called them and one of the other guys there had him call me back pretty quick. Ordered Coilovers, camber plates and he upped the rear rate and refunded me the difference. He confirmed he had everything in stock and had a invoice sent to me less than 15 min after the call. 10/10 customer service.

Thanks for the help all!

I tested a bunch of spring combos.

I settled for 400/650 but that is with Hotchkis front bar, and 034 rear bar, both on the softest setting.

I put your spring/bar setup in my suspension calculator and compared the front roll couple (FRC) between OEM/Me/You +neuspeed rear bar.

The higher the FRC, the higher the front roll stiffness is relative to the rear - and thus the front will get a greater percentage of the total roll stiffness and the car will be more biased towards understeer.

Front Roll Couple Comparison
OEM
DaveC
Dallas
FRC
69.3%
63.5%
51.7%

The Neuspeed bar brings the total amount of roll stiffness rearwards, I predict a lot of oversteer. But that is also alignment-dependent.

Now, if you balanced out the car with a stiffer front bar, like the Hotchkis on the stiff setting, your FRC goes to 64.3%.

This is why I advocate for a front bar vs a rear bar or both, but not just a rear bar.

My Hotchkis front bar with the OEM springs and rear bar gives an FRC of 79-81% depending on the bar setting.

Bruh, didn't you just say that a larger FRC means understeer?

Yes, and that's why I also advocate for rear toe-out to counter this issue.

Also what rear sway bar is everyone running with the Ohlins? I'm thinking my 27mm Neuspeed will be too much and is contributing to the harshness of my current setup.
See above.

Got the Ohlins kit installed yesterday + whiteline roll center correction kit + 034 front end links. Notable improvement in every area compared to my prior coilovers. Probably going to add a few clicks to soften the ride a hair. Setup handles the trash roads in my area so much better.

Just gotta get a new set of tires. PS4S 245/45r17 currently on 40r17 and set the final ride height and tweak the camber probably.

Now to save up for Vortex XL &fueling.

What's the easiest way to adjust the fronts? Jack up the car and reach under? Since the knob is on the bottom? Or am I missing something lol

Turn the wheel all the way in one direction and reach in with your hand.

For the rears the spacer should be able to go through the hole in the shock mount right? My used kit only came with a 12mm spacer

Should go all the way through. Honestly no idea how the former owner was using them, I have his mounts (which are the same dimensions as a new set from FCP).

I have Ohlins DFV installed on Mk7 GTI. Only run approx 3000 miles. But apparently now it sound clunking and noise when on pavement road. Similar to rattle, and when turning steer on asphalt (good asphalt) I can feel similar to damaged bearing top mount.
Any suggestion what should I do? Any tips or how to solve the noise? Thank you
