Hi all. I tried to do this mod on my E-golf and figured it would be a easy job. I installed everything correctly and found a wiring harness that fits the usb module without any extra hassle.

For reference it can be found here: USB wiring harness USB Type-c charger wiring harness 12V break-free wiring harness
https://a.aliexpress.com/_mOuMB6D

I also found a dual USB C-module here: Applicable MK7 Tiguan L Touran L Magotan B8 Golf Seven Double-hole USB Charger Single-hole USB Charging Interface USB Type-c
https://a.aliexpress.com/_msrSccD

My issue is that from what I can gather, it seems like the original vent trim piece is more rounded than the one from AliExpress. I have the vent trim piece with part number 5GE863289.
Can someone tell me what I’m doing wrong?

I also installed these two buttons next to the gear shifter. If anyone knows how to activate the TPMS button, ESP-button and the auto stop off button I would be forever grateful. The other buttons were already there on the old set. I switched them out today. The red circled buttons are not working after the swap. Previously the buttons were blanked out.

Adding a button doesn't magically add a feature to your car, lol.

For the ESC off & TPMS buttons, you need to wire back to the correct pins on the ABS module...

I did write ups here:-

@TheMuffinMan I have access to ODIS and I assume it needs to be coded. All of the functions except the auto off button are available on the infotainment screen, so it’s a matter of making the car recognise the additional buttons. Where did I express that I expected it to work magically ?

Not that it matters terribly, but this statement leads one to believe you installed the buttons and are surprised they're not functional.

The vendor said they were plug and play so, sure. A little. But I did expect some coding. It turns out based on the information I got here that it’s plug and play in China and that the mods require additional wiring. No biggie. I can get that taken care of during a visit to my dealership with the instructions provided. Thanks everyone for helping me along.

The buttons need to be coded... VCDS/OBDEleven/ODIS will work. But they also need to be wired to the ABS, as @golfdave mentioned. For the TPMS set you need to have the 46 pin ABS module (and not the 38). I'm making an assumption about the e-Golf ABS though, so you'll wanna check the schematics to be sure.

Assuming they were picked up from Aliexpress their "plug and play" solutions are typically very much not so in my experience, haha.

The rear USB port for me got sent with the completely wrong harness which I had to depin and troubleshoot to see what was going on. Everything plugged in but there was a distinct lack of play

Has anyone installed the USB-C version of rear ports in Golf MK7?

Part numbers:
11D035954 for Dual USB-C
3GB035954 for USB-C and USB-A
The latter is available on AliExpress as a full set for MK7, but the former looks similar at the back so I hope it would work.

Also in case of USB-C do you know anything about Power Delivery compliance and other voltages than 5V?

I haven't tried converting to USB-C. It might me a thing more down the track, but at the moment it's quite handy just having the regular ports, though the power is not that high via the 12v socket, so I don't think it would be an issue on the USB-C version. As long as the power plug for the new part is the same it would be a very quick and easy change once you have already done the work to install the old style.

I had the same experience. It turns out that the correct wiring harness is this one:

NOK 71.36 | USB wiring harness USB Type-c charger wiring harness 12V break-free wiring harness

The only thing missing for me is the correct rear black trim piece for the usb module to slide in to. The one I got sent from my car does not fit. And I have tried several times to fit it.

My original trim piece is 5ge863289. The Chinese one is 5GG 863 289A-G02.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to find the proper trim piece?

I did it to my UK 2018 GTI, and it fitted no problem, but then we have the high line centre console and e-handbrake here in the UK

I take it you're still happy with it?..Which aliexpress supplier did you get it from??

Sorry Dave, only just seen this (not been on here for a few weeks). Yes, it's all still working just fine and looks factory. The seller on AliExpress was called"Performance Tuning Parts"

No problems....Yeah I saw that lot, & ended up getting mine from "Saborway"......

I'm catching up with a few mods before prices/availability gets stupid.....plus I'm in the mood after giving the car a big "seeing to"!!

Anyway I take it yours is still ok?
