In the interest of quality, eco-friendliness and cost savings decided to look at replacing the bearings in some worn wheel hub assemblies.

I see no information on this because it requires a press, know how and much less money. Perhaps rising costs will increase interest in this. I'm seeing high quality bearings at around $30 each plus bolts. $150 vs $400-600 for all 4 wheels

Looking at SKF bearings, appreciate any info from anybody down this rabbit hole

On the mk7 gti, the wheel bearings are part of the hubs - they just bolt in.. To my knowledge, no pressing is required. The front hub/bearing bolts onto the spindle and the axle passes through it. The rear hub/bearing has an axle stub that sandwiches the hub/bearing onto the spindle.
