Another EQT convert and a few questions...

The VW dealer keeps hassling me about getting the recall update done for the ECU, my car being a 2019. The car did stall a few times up to about 800 miles and then never again. I have been putting it off to keep from losing my APR tune, but the thought occurred to me that if a warranty issue occurs, inaction on getting the ECU updated may not help my case.

So, I decided to go with the EQT tune a bit prematurely, as the plan was to do it with a turbo upgrade. Anyway, after doing a bit of reading, this particular paragraph intrigued me, because I have had this issue with both stage1 and stage 2 tunes:

Never heard of this but if this works, would make the switch worth it for sure. Has anyone here had this issue and did the EQT tune fix it?

Another question is regarding the recall work: can I take my car as is to the dealer to get the recall done, or should I get the car flashed back to stock first?

interesting. I've noticed that issue in my own car with an older EQT tune, my car is at their shop now so hopefully the new tune they are doing for me includes this improvement.

i would flash the car back to stock before taking to the dealer to avoid issues but if they look they will find that your car was tuned and void your warranty

I'm more concerned with the APR tune interfering with the reflash than voiding the warranty, which the dealer can't do anyway.

yes, i had the DV issue before i got the VW update back in November... there was a thread where another 2019 owner was complaining of the flutter and thought it was a leak, i recommended he get the update and that fixed his issue as well.

I'm on sneekytune now Via cobb AP and i don't know if he had figured out how to fix this like eqt also, but i can say i don't have any issues still. but that could be related to not being on a stock DV anymore also.

So the VW recall fixed the DV issue? And when you got your car's recall work done, did you flash to stock beforehand?

yes, my car was like yours , had a couple stalls in the beginning but non after that for the next 12 miles. but was always limited with the boost requests i could do with the JB4 cause anything above stock below 4k rpms was very noticeable and annoying. once i got the update i was able to add boost below 4k with out a problem at all and the car was much smoother.

No the stock VW tune would still have the issue that EQT spoke about with the DV bleeding off boost around 3000 RPM at 40-50% throttle. It's the EQT tune that fixes it.

My 2019 car came with the latest update when I bought mine and stalled a few times when I was ok vacation in Vegas which was about 800 miles on the car and I’ve never seen the issue since then I’m at 9,000 miles currently.

The VW dealer said the recall work will reflash the ECU and wipe out any existing tune. So if you're tuned, you don't need to remove it before going to the dealer.

that highlighted paragraph confirms what I thought has been an issue with my car from day one off the lot in 2016, also with a jb4 and current unitronic tune.... only happens in 2nd gear for me though, at about 80-85% of the time under the conditions listed. I've had passengers ask if my clutch was slipping because of it (it's not the clutch).

been debating switching to EQT but I'm not chasing HP and I'm happy with my current set up but this nugget of info might be the swing factor for me.

I think the lag fix is worth the price of switching. As it is now, if I really want to mash the throttle, I have to be over 3500 RPMs or get on it from 1st gear, which is useless with all the wheelspin. It cuts down on the opportunities to even use the power. It's basically all or nothing.

On a side note, I have another question: IIRC, the normal procedure is to plug a battery charger to the car during reflash, in case the battery dies and bricks the ECU.
I don't have one but do have a Jump N Carry. Would that work?

I'd highly recommend using a battery tender for the initial flash since it takes a solid 15 minutes to install the Cobb AP to your car the first time, and you definitely don't want your battery dying during the flash process. After the initial flash, it only takes 1-2 mins if you ever want to switch between flashes (stage 2 to stock for example), so you don't necessarily need the battery charger for those instances. But you can never be too safe. Also it looks like the pic you posted would work since it says "12 volt power supply" on it. Don't quote me on that though.

I've never had to hook up a charger to my battery while reflashing my car, not even for the initial flash. It only takes like 2 minutes to switch tunes using the AP.
