Another downpipe thread

I just bought a 2019 MK7.5 R and want to go stage 2 pretty soon. I'm looking for a downpipe right now and was hoping you guys might have some suggestions. I want something of reasonable quality and fitment, but more than that, I want something that won't be too loud. I actually like how the car sounds stock and hope to stay as close to that as possible, but of course I want the power afforded by a stage 2 tune. Does anyone have a suggestion for a downpipe package that might meet my needs (by package, I mean maybe there's a kit that includes a resonator or something to reduce noise).

Let me know!

The cat should be in the stock front location for noise control and proper light-off from what I've heard. if that's what you are going after.

I'd suggest 034 or Integrated Engineering. they have nice downpipes that use the OEM mounts and have decent fitment. Also Milltek/Racingline as they are similar to the 034 etc..... Milltek has the option of a Euro6 cat ....

From what are know, those downpipes will be the best for fitment and not too noisy as long as you keep the factory catback unmodified (no res delete or muffler delete). They should only be slightly louder than stock.

PS. keep your stock downpipe as you could run into frustrations down the road if you sell it.

That's the second suggestion I've had for Integrated Engineering, but they're sold out...so is 034. And now ECS tuning's website is down. Hmm, maybe they're trying to tell me something.

Got warranty? keep it stockish like I've been doing .... once warranty is over thennnnnn.

or Milltek .... good stuff I'd say.

I have been quite happy with my catted Ultimate Racing WITH the large resonator option for a number of years now. https://www.ultimate-racing.com/products/golf-gti-mk7-downpipe. I had a much nicer "looking" Eurodyne catted downpipe which I had to remove and sell as it had drone at certain loads/RPM, too loud, plus DSG farts. DSG farts get old quickly. It was the drone that I really could not take, felt like my head was going to explode at certain frequencies. Not sure how folks put up with it.

Your downpipe won't likely have a resonator, as that's almost always further down the exhaust system (though if you look hard enough, a few can be found). What may make a tangible difference in sound levels is whether or not your downpipe has a cat or not. A downpipe, catted or not, will also change your exhaust note: the typical extra 1/2 inch diameter will allow some lower frequency sounds though your system, even when mitigated by a stock exhaust system. You may be finding it hard to find downpipes or even stage 2 tunes, as last year the EPA announced that they were actively going after manufacturers of parts which defeated the original pollution control systems (https://www.epa.gov/newsreleases/ep...s-against-those-who-violate-defeat-device-and). Overseas sources might be a better bet.

Will the IE downpipe work in stock configuration without throwing a code?

I have this DP+Res as well and I'm also very happy with it. One of the quietest options IMO.

No it's won't unfortunately. It's a euro 3 cat to my knowledge .... so it doesn't clean the exhaust enough to stop the CEL triggering .... Milltek and I think racingline offer euro 6 cat downpipes ....
also people have had success (not always) with the Ultimate Racing downpipes with the O2 sensor spacer option ....

This thread will help you I think .... It's possible to be cel free basically on a lot of downpipes.

I have the AWE downpipe, catted, with resonated midpipe matted to stock cat-back. Barely louder than stock with minimal, if any, drone. I do 100 miles per day driving my R at all speeds and I absolutely love the sound.
