Aggressive wheel fitment thread/stance

looking for some advice

im on Michelin pilot AS4 245/40/18 18x8.5 et 45 right now with absolutely no rubbing at all. i want to go wider and bigger but i dont want to modify the car or its ride height and have no plans to do so.

255/35/19 on 19x8.5 et 45 on stock height and suspension. can it work without rubbing? fender screw mod only necessary?

someone said I might need spacers in the back if I have a gti which I do. if I did need them, what should be enough? only want what's necessary... 3, 5, 10mm?

obviously i dont care about my speedometer being off.

Are you on stock suspension or coil overs because I would be interested to see if that tire touches the strut? This obviously could be fix with running 5mm spacer up front Michelin pss have giant outer tread blocks that make them .2 bigger in outer than say a Firestone. Is this just for looks or a purpose?

I want to add with my recent 2021 Jetta acquisition, that I am in the process of doing a 19 inch wheel setup myself. I will be going with a 19 x8.5 ET48 wheel, and once the wheels are here, I will be in a good position to play around with tire sizes to see what fits. Car is getting dropped on H&R sport springs, and with the 19's and some good tires, I should end up with a pretty good fitment. Or at least I hope. Im already aware the Jetta has slightly more room in the wheel well. Currently I am thinking a 245/40 tire, but that could change. I will post up once dialed in so @krvnked, as well as others can see.

18" is the sweet spot for performance with this platform.

17" for ride and cheap track tires.

19" is worse than either in both performance and ride, but looks cool.

You have to decide what your main goal is and decide what you're willing to compromise.

Previously on H&R Sport, Factory Dampers. Absolute trash of a ride.

These appear to be H&R spring or aggressive Eibach setup. But considering they put the money in to rays wheels with PS tires probably coil overs. Just a educated guess lol nice autocross set up 245/45/17 is perfect diameter at stock size and diameter.

It is perfect!

Recently moved over to V3’s. The ride is way better but a bit too soft for my liking in terms of body roll. Will test after winter.

People never believe how bad the base Sachs suspension is with lowering springs.

They just collapse into the bump stops and the car just bobs and crashes.

Can confirm, I crashed and died 30 minutes after installing VWR springs.

Jk it's never been a problem once and the car handles noticeably better

-2.1 front camber, -1.7 rear, 0 toe front, .1 toe in rear



Going to add some more camber front and rear, though will likely wait and do that when these tires are worn and move to 245's, and the right rear is definitely going to rub on the fuel filler.

Some, but not too bad.

Photo is from last week when I pulled them off to put my normal 18" street setup back on, the R-S4's have about 3000 miles of street driving and 3 track days at Laguna on them. The tire on the right was from the front, rotated to the front just before the last track day.

Thanks! I still think I like the 17’s better, looks wise.. the 235’s also look so small compared to the 255’s!

255/35/18 is what I run at +45, 245/40 is very close to stock size and will work fine. I have seen up to a 265/30/19 work at +50 but there is a small amount of rub in the front even with coils
