Thought I would get this thread rolling for the purpose of tracking new and upcoming turbo solutions for our cars. I think what everyone is curious on is reliability, expected and seen power (dyno #s), price, required additional things needed to run it (fueling, software), and additional opinions (was it worth it? How does it feel on street, track, etc)...right now the major solutions I am tracking are:

IS20/38 Hybrid solutions

DBV2: https://m.facebook.com/DBV2SI/
Price: +/- 3600 CAD
EST. WHP:350-420
Type Turbo:

TAMIOKA: https://www.tomiokaracing.com/produc...audi-mqb-ea888

Price: $1,710 shipped with 10% off through EDO Performance (turbo only option)

EST WHP: ~400 with stock fueling and custom tune with at least intake, DP and IC

Type Turbo: IS38 sized with bigger wheels

Supporting Mods Required: None really, but IC, DP and custom tune would be best

Pros: It looks OEM. Normal driving feels like stock.

Cons: Supplied DP gasket is too thick. More lag than IS20.

Reviews: TBD, still tuning on JB4 (Diggs)

If you have any of these, or others I didn't mention please begin to build out this thread for the rest of us who are looking for a better turbo solution for our vehicles. This should become a one stop shop for reading up on all things aftermarket turbo for these vehicles. Thanks!

A big selling point for me on these “hybrids” will be/is their price relative to an IS38 & a protune, be it Maestro or Cobb. Depending on what condition you get your turbo in and your tuner you can be in well under $1500 vs $3000 for what not might be that big of a bump in power over the IS38 option is making this decision more difficult than it was on previous generations.

I have the Mabotech M560is. Just put down 484 whp on 93 pump gas/methanol. Retails for $4495 and is a true Dual Ball Bearing Turbo unlike most of the is38 hybrids, vargas turbo, etc.

Bolts in just like an is38 install and provides spooltime of a hybrid with top end of a big turbo.

Other options from mabotech are m480is ($3950) and M680is ($4995)

I have a tamioka in my possesion but want to see how fast I can go with is38 before switching out. I believe its the most affordable turbo in the market without needing core replacement and seems to perform well from folks initial results.

What software are you running with it? Haven't heard anything about these turbos...

Mabotech’s based on the Dominican Republic, I believe. Seen a few threads with some Seats running their stuff. They have a public fb page, Mabotech Tuning.

There’s the TTE series stuff also, quite a few shops in Germany tuning these.
