This is why I bought a different dipstick. ECS has one that’s nice and I like it but jeez you’d think you wouldn’t want to replace something like this.

Alright, thank God. I turned on the car and moved it to another flatter surface (i hope), and left it on until it was at operating temperature. Reading the oil level was a bit easier and its in the 'C' zone.

Toyota Prius has this problem.

The solution for them is, pull the dipstick and wipe it clean and wait 5 minutes for the stick tube to drain.

Re-insert and then pull out, and there isn't any oil in the dipstick tube to wipe off on the stick during removal--leaving a clean reading.

Works best with warm oil.

Reviving this dead old thread to share a trick that worked for me. I found it impossible to accurately read the dipstick with my brand-new clean oil.

The solution is fairly simple. Lay out a piece of paper towel on a flat surface. Pull the dipstick out and place it on the towel.

The mark on the towel will clearly show the oil level. More here.
