@isacheema - Did you get your radar sorted? if not, I could still potentially repair your radar. I fully repaired and serviced mine, still working perfectly.
Hi Dave

no unfortunately I didn’t :( still sat there on the car useless as ever.
That would be brilliant - is yours the dome shaped one? I would definitely love to get mine repaired by yourself if you’ve managed to do yours.

how much would we be looking at

thanks!

Hi Isacheema, yea mine is the older dome-front radar, it's been spot on for probably a year or so now, I'll try and find some before/after photo's tonight.

In all honesty I don't have a set price for cost at the minute, I was going to offer a postal repair service on a sort of no-win no-fee basis, where you only pay return postage if I can't repair it but then I had to go into hospital and kind of forgot about the idea while I was healing.

It's about 50/50 on the amount of work to repair the case and the electronics, the case can actually be much harder as all of the rear cover bolts WILL snap when you try to remove them, so the studs have to be drilled/welded-screwed out, then it has to be sand/shotblasted and it can take upwards of a couple of hours provided the electronics are still salvagable. For added excitement sometimes the pins on the electrical connector (not an available VW spare part) in the bottom disintegrate due to sitting in water with electricity on them, fortunately I now have a fix for this too.

It will probably be around a couple of hundred all totalled in the worst case, which sounds a lot but is still far cheaper than VW who are having people for over £1k, obviously a percentage of that is ADIS calibration but you should avoid having to have that done if the radar has only failed electrically, if the mounting bracket is damaged, or the little plastic clips that the mounting 'bolts' on the radar pop into are damaged then you may need to have it recalibrated, the most important thing is to not adjust those 3x bolts, once you move one of those it's recalibration O-clock, there's companies out there offering ADIS re-cal for around £250 so it's not the end of the world but best to try and avoid it.

If you just want me to take a look and see if its salvageable first then just pay postage here and back and i'll take a look for you.

Cheers.

This is what your typical horror story starts out like.

Inside you see all that white fluffy corrosion encroaches on the board. The remains of the bolts in the corners can be seen here as well.

The red seal around the perimeter of the rear cover is what causes the issue when it fails.

This is after shot blasting to remove the corrosion, and the bolts extracted. Electronics are repaired and reassembled. After all that I do some bench tests to check for basic functionality, then it's ready to go home.
