A great VAG Man said don't scrimp on transmission fluid for 6 speed manual GTI.

Motul made a massive difference over OEM for me. Smoothed it up a lot. I wouldn’t use it in a cold climate though

I’ve run fresh oem, motul 300, synchromesh/oem cocktail and this…
Syncroshift 2 for me I’d say my preference in order is:

syncro shift 2 : smooth, quiet, fast action
Oem : just works good.
Oem/syncro mesh : smooth as fu** but rather noise.
Motul : godawful knotch with my precise and stiff shifter setup (could be fine with a loose oem shifter setup I guess) but for me I’m in Vegas weather I was not a fan at all… was def. the quietest of the bunch though so I guess there’s that.

I may try the syncroshift myself. Need to drain fluid in an old 02M 6 speed that seems to be really notchy after all the bushing replacements

Did Motul or Redline, can't remember, but it was changed at 30k miles. Positive was that it had fresh fluid, but it was harder and notchier to shift into gear especially into 2nd on cold days.

At 60k miles I changed it again with VW fluid, felt much smoother on my stock GTI.

Fluid came out somewhat dark, but definitely nowhere near as dark when I changed it at 30k. I won't be changing until 120k (If I keep it for that long, I see a minivan in the near future).

I've been happy with the EQT Cocktail (blend of Red Line's MT-LV and Lightweight Shockproof). Performance is similar to when I was using MT-90 except it's not as bad when it's cold. Still sometimes get locked out of reverse during cold starts, but not as often as the MT-90
