The gear of OEM VW MK7 oil pump has 22 teeth. However, it appears there is Chinese mod of 24 teeth oil pump for VW MK7:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/315909954617

While it is likely aftermarket, it may pump more oil than the OEM 22 teeth oil pump, for each full turn of the gear.

What's the potential usefulness? Maybe for those MK7s that are having low oil pressure problem during hot idle because of whatever issues with the engines.

No one has tried, so not sure it will fit with standard OEM oil pump chain that drives the gear. Assume the gear with 24 teeth has the same diameter as the standard one with 22 teeeth.

Someone here already installed such modified oil pump, please comment. Thanks

Most of your assumptions are wrong.
All pre-2019 OEM Mk7 oil pumps are 24 teeth.

2019+ GTI (DKFA) and Gen3B motors (DGUA, i.e. Tiguan) have a 22 tooth oil pump sprocket. This provides more oil pressure to make up for the loss in viscosity with the 0w-20 those are specced for.

The modified pumps on the market remove teeth and change out the relief valve springs to allow for higher oil pressure. And they are much more than $120.

Thanks, I find this forum very valuable and to the point.

Thanks, there is oil pump for MK7 with 22 teeth gear for sale:

There is a market for oil pump mod low oil pressure on hot idle, cheaper to replace the oil pump with a higher power one than any works on the engine or replace the engine.

That is a cheap chinese pump intended for a DKFA/DGUA. No one who's going to the effort of trying to add reliability through oil pressure is going to buy a chinese knock-off.

It's much simpler to just change the table for high-pressure operation to kick in at a lower speed. You sacrifice a bit of mpg but it's free.

Or you can pay for this option, which changes out the relief valve springs to set a higher max operating pressure:

Thanks, the gear of the oil pump from your link has only 19 teeth (I counted), that is better.

Folks DIY replacing the oil pump, only need to pay for the pump, 860 bucks plus tax and shipping (from Germany) amouts to about 1200 bucks, not bad to mitigate low oil pressure on hot idle problem, lot cheaper than to have dealer to do engine work or replacing engine, usually can not DIY.
