2019 Alltrack manual has a little jerkiness sometimes when letting off throttle quickly

Hi all,

I am wondering if this is normal. The car is a 2019 Alltrack with 6-speed manual, and sometimes when letting off the throttle quickly (even when not accelerating hard), it feels like the drivetrain jerks a little, like from a soft engine mount. Is this normal on these cars, and would a dogbone mount insert help? The car has 9k miles on it so I doubt the engine mounts are worn out. I bought it only about 1000 miles ago so it's been like this the whole time. It's not violent, but I feel like this slight jerkiness shouldn't be there. I'm not sure if it's an engine mount issue or something else. Otherwise, the car drives like a 9k mile car should.

If a dogbone mount insert is the cure, I was looking at the 034 Motorsport one, and I wonder if anyone off hand knows which version of the dogbone mount I'd have on a 2019 Alltrack. Is it v1 or v2? Does it make sense to install the upper dogbone mount as well?

thank you!

Yes it’s the engine mounts. No buy the BFI don’t buy 034 they are only marginally better then stock and u will wish you bought bfi ones earlier ask me how I know lol

Thanks, after I made my post I saw some similar recommendations for the BFI products over the 034. I'll check them out.

I'm assuming the dogbone mount is not visible on the Alltrack without removing the skid plate, so I'll have to do that one of these days.

Does it make sense to just do the dogbone mount or do I need to look at the other mounts as well? I'm not driving the car like a nut, but it would be nice to have it smoother when closing the throttle quickly.

034 must market exclusively to new to MK7 owners

Hah! I honestly didn't know they even existed until I saw people on various forums talking about their products. I haven't seen it marketed elsewhere.

A stiffer dogbone mount may cause the stock mounts to wear quickly (did on mine). Most will recommend BFI stage 1 engine mounts which seem to be great. I can vouch for the cpe ones if you don’t mind added cabin noise.

You can try just dogbone first it’s the easiest and also cheapest. Do some research, lots to choose from. Then if still not happy you can do engine and trans at that point, which is ideal but also pricey

Thanks for the replies, all. I guess I will try the dogbone insert for now. I am surprised these mounts are so soft, but I guess NVH reduction was the goal.

Another possible culprit could be the OEM dual mass flywheel. Since the OEM mounts are 9k miles old they may not be so terrible.

I've replaced full mounts on my GTI and I still get jerkiness while in low gears during acceleration and deceleration. I assume this is from the DMF shuddering from the change in acceleration.

@uberdot I believe you went SMF for awhile right? Did you notice any change in jerkiness before and after?

I have an SMF, it is not significantly less jerky, maybe a little.

They put these motors in the engine bay wrong so when you're on and off throttle the engine rocks back and forth.

Seems odd to need to upgrade the mounts (even the dog bone) with stock power.

Since the OP has only had the car for 1000 miles I would guess this is more of a lack of practice with a somewhat temperamental gear box. I would seek solutions towards that end first before doing anything with the mounts.

(Just a hypothesis, not trying to criticize anyone's driving skill)

@JC_451 This isn't when I'm shifting, this is just if I'm cruising and close the throttle somewhat quickly. I'm able to shift pretty smoothly on this car.
Why are you having to abruptly close the throttle so often? You're going to get jerking by abruptly closing the throttle and then getting back on throttle. If your car only has 9000 miles and it's stock you don't need motor mounts.

Is that what I said? I never said I was abruptly closing the throttle and getting back on the throttle. Holy moly.

When you're cruising down a road, sometimes you have to take your foot off the throttle quickly. This happens when most people drive.

The question was whether the slight jerk I'm feeling is normal because it wouldn't necessarily happen on some other cars that would be smoother in the same situation.

I never said that i need new engine mounts, but I am getting the impression that these cars come with relatively soft engine mounts that deflect quite a bit, hence the numerous aftermarket offerings to stiffen everything up.
