Former Honda guy here. I can see a tuned 1.5 making an okay power plant for the Si. What it lacks is everything else. I'm constantly amazed by how well my GTI has been thought out in regards to he interior and controls. I test drove the new civic and wasn't impressed at all.

I agree. Another former Honda guy here. I had a 1989 Civic Si hatchback with a LS/VTEC motor and then a 2000 Honda Civic Si (B16A) back in the day. Those cars were so much fun. I find myself less and less impressed every time a new Si comes out. Maybe as I'm getting older I just appreciate the refinement of the GTI more and the boyracer look of the Si less. I dunno. Maybe the Type R will change my mind when it actually makes it to the States.

I'd be surprised if it changed your mind. Everything I've seen from the R so far... I'd be embarassed to be seen in that thing. It's like they looked at cheap mods the under 20 ricer crowd was doing to their stock civics and said "yeah... that's totally what people want."

I learned to drive stick on a 91 civic 4 door (that my dad still drives with 300,000+ miles). Moved to a 01 accord, then a 07 civic, then a 13 accord. They got progressively worse over time. Honda used to make a kick ass car for not a lot of money.

Blah!

I don't like the looks AT ALL. Having simply say in the new civic was a instant "NOPE!".
I'm tall, so honda lost me after I traded in my '06 accord for a '11 Golf TDI. Haven't looked back since. Seriously there are precious few cars out there that fit me as well as the Golf/TDI. The ones that do are too big (SUV) or no fun to drive.

U should see the hate on the Civic forums concerning Honda going with the smaller 1.5 engine instead of the 2.0.

I'm not even gonna lie, I love Honda Stick-shifts, and was seriously thinking about getting the Si, if it had a turbo, as a secondary car. But what a let down this reveal was.

Even if Honda could get the 1.5 turbo up to Stock GTI numbers, there wouldn't be much more room for more power for such a small engine.

Only thing I took away from that article is to wonder how red floormats would look in my GTI.
