2016 GTI strange DSG Behavior!!

Hi all.. need some input regarding my 2 days old 2016 GTI
at slow speeds and while keeping a light touch at the gas pedal, the dsg holds gears in an unusual way. the car stays in 1st 'till 30 km or so.. the 2nd will hang 'till 50 km even if i lift my foot, the car will still hold gear and the only way t get it to upshift is to press harder.
of all the GTI's I drove before I don't remember them doing the same:confused:

D and S are one click away from each other and by pulling the lever back, it shifts from drive to sport, pull it again and it reverts to drive...it has nothing to do with you being in the ECO mode. Hope this helps?

thanks for the clarification. but the DSG was not in sport mode, it was showing either D + (gear number) or E+(gear number) on the display depending on my driver mode selection

Is this your first gti with eco mode function? I'm perpetually on eco mode and I know what you're talking about. It's frustrating that it doesn't change up to 3rd gear but it makes sense. At 50kph on 2nd gear, your revs should be less than 1500 and it doesn't make sense (fuel economy-wise) to switch gears at such low revs. Its just not economical. To prove it, switch your driving data to current consumption and check if it's still below 10l/100km, when you're at 50kph on 2nd gear.

But once you go past 60kph, you'll see it switch to E6 before it even hits 90kph. What annoys me is when you drive on eco mode, tap the brake and let go, the car's doesn't have the lil 'eco' symbol on the MFD cos it's engine braking....

Another thing that frustrated me for few days was when the engine wouldn't shut off automatically when on eco mode and at the traffic junction. Turns out it won't switch off if the outside temperature is too high because the interior wouldn't remain cool enough.. Trust the germans to think of it all!

@GTI..FTW actually my GTI will hold gear at 2nd past 3000 RPM at which point the car speed is 50km or so..

I too have the same thing. I think VW made it for economic reasons . If you see that unlike older GTI which were very eager to go fast shifting down the moment you lift from the paddle. But now it takes the rpm to really go down to down shift.
We have to live with it or drive in sport mode.

I don't think it's the same issue .. What's happening with me is shifting delay, accompanied by high RPM.. as if the car is refusing to upshift and remaining in lower gears till 3k or close to 4k RPM even if I lift my foot it will stay on gear

That is not right, when i accelerate lightly on "D" by the time i'm at 40-45 i'm in 4th gear and a soon as i hit 70 i'm on 6th gear. I don't even have drive mode selection.

Something is definitely not right if you are hitting 50 in 2nd gear and that too on eco. The point of Eco would be to upshift as soon as possible so by 50 u should technically by in 4th or 5th gear

Take a video of this behaviour and keep it as proof if the dealer cannot replicate the same problem.

Weather has nothing to with it, as its about 48 deg celcius here today and none of this happens even when i start from cold.

Hi, so my mk7 is now a year and a half hold... In the beginning, for the first 5000 km it did exactly that. Strangely holding out on shifting.. And I don't have eco. After about 5000 the shift delay stopped. I don't think you have anything to worry about. Was your engine cold? Does this happen in other gears too? Your car is brand new! If you have concerns beyond anybody's speculation in the forums you should go to your dealer and get it checked out. I think its your DSG "learning"..

A pattern is emerging! The DSG only misbehaves when the car is extensively used (more than 20 min) in temperatures over 40C.. after cool down or when temp drops bellow 40 all is good

My dealer is telling me this issue is a software problem which hasn't been solved yet.. And its common on many of 2016 GTI's produced after the end of May .. Does any one who received a recent GTI have the same issue??
