2016 golf R, gti specs for UAE released

If you were like me waiting for the mib2 infotainment system on the MY 2016 models of the golf R and GTI, sorry to say that there are no changes from the MY15 to MY16. Apparently the first lot of MY16 models are already here.

Still hope that my sales rep is wrong, cause the Canadians are getting mib2 on MY16.

I saw one of the new 2016 models, or maybe last batch of 2015 I don't know, at the workshop and the only new thing was the "stop-start" button that shuts off the engine when u stop. Everything else seems to be the same.

Haven't seen the stop-start button before.

Also I've seen the option of mirrorlink in the vw germany configurator for a while now. Probably just nabooda/ vw ME doing its nonsense and putting things like heated seats for the middle east....when there are better things out there.

And the highlight...the new MIB2 will replace the 5.8" screen we currently have for a 6.5" unit...the only thing that pisses me off really seeing how my mk6 had a 6.5" screen around 3 years ago

And if i'm not mistaken, MIB2 with mirrorlink will be optional for the 6.5" and standard on the 8".

And ofcourse, the fact that mirrorlink only works with Android

I got my MK7 in December 2013... And mine has start-stop...

The full option model came with the start stop function touch lock leather seats.

But I did see the new headlights seem to have the R indicator... Which is LED.. Not sure if that's going to come.


Yeah heated seats from nabooda... If you want the bigger screen go to Abu Dhabi they sold the bigger one last year..

I find that the ability to easily switch off the Stop-Start useful when parking especially in a tight space.

I also switch off Auto-Hold and use the engine creep (I have DSG) to slowly manoeuvre.

Hey Mukul, I have been reading about the mib2 for 3 months now but Naboodah is insisting that the 2016 will have no changes. I've been bugging my sales guy week after week for the last 2 months but these guys don't have a clue or are afraid to disclose details. One of the lucky guys in this forum is getting his car in the next couple of weeks, so will have more concrete info then.

On a separate note looks like the mk7 will get a facelift next year, if it looks anything like the gte available now it will be awesome!!!!

Agreed MIB 2 info has been out for a while now, and the german configurator has had it for a while too.

Facelifts for the golf are a lot more often that other models. MK6 came out in 2010, 2012 had a facelift, Mid 2013 had the mk7.

Scirocco came out 2011, now it got a facelift, same goes for touareg, cc etc.

Its like the Golf is the scapegoat for new things

Folding Mirrors .. Retrofit costs over 400 dollars + VCDS tweaks...

I'm not sure I understand what everyone means by the car being facelifted. To me, the MK5 always looked the same during its life cycle and when the MK6 came, it looked the same during its life cycle. And same for when the MK7 came out.

So, correct if I'm wrong, any image rendering of the "2016 GTi" (which I feel is hocus pocus) would not be on the MK7, but on an MK8. And if the MK7 was out in the summer of 2013, I feel it still has a good 2 years.. or maybe 3.. before the MK8 is introduced in the market.

Allow me to speculate, I believe the facelift refers to minor cosmetic changes or improvements on the car. From what i see in the forums it can be as simple as the GTI getting the daytime running lights that's currently available on the GTE ( tried uploading an image but difficult from my mobile, too lazy to get to the laptop)

Lol hopefully I'll be able to put this daily mk7 googling to rest once I get the car but until then then let the speculation continue.....
