Nice reviews guys! Sounds like quite a good little car. If I were in the market for a hot economy car it would come down to this or the Civic Si.

Subaru sells like crazy here. We are less than an hour from snow, so everyone wants the AWD. Plus, we have tons of douchenozzles here who want to get the WRX/STI and be a douche in it.

complete with flat brim hats and energy drinks???

find Chicago Car Network on facebook, they might be able to help

No I actually do like the Si. Simple, reliable, cheap, and now more fun with torks.

Reading all this got me interested so I hopped onto my local dealers website to see when they were getting theirs. The description of the WRX is hilarious.

"This is an exceptional vehicle at an affordable price! A turbocharger is also included as an economical means of increasing performance. Subaru prioritized fit and finish as evidenced by: adjustable headrests in all seating positions, a built-in garage door transmitter, and cruise control. Subaru made sure to keep road-handling and sportiness at the top of it's priority list. Smooth gearshifts are achieved thanks to the efficient 4 cylinder engine, and all wheel drive keeps this model firmly attached to the road surface. Well tuned suspension and stability control deliver a spirited, yet composed, ride and drive "

Test drove the WRX yesterday, and I loved it, definitely miss driving a stick, car responds better than the last gen WRX and handles well. Interior is still kinda meh, but it's not really a priority for me.

Talking to a few dealers in the tri state area to see if they can give me a better trade in offer.

Good deal! I got two drastically different trade in numbers from two dealers. Again, goes back to how they want to do business. Good luck and hopefully you get the amount you need.

Congrats! Your review sort of mirrors mine a few pages back. Now that I've had mine for a week, i'll elaborate:

I filled up my gas tank today, 14 gallons @ around 350 or so miles. The dash indicated i'd averaged about 25-26 on this tank, so that sounds about right. If i had to guess, i'd imagine about 65% of that was highway driving and the remainder around town/in city. For the sake of full disclosure, I think i forgot to reset it (the trip meter) until i was home from the dealership about 20ish miles up the road.

After playing with the head unit, I've noticed that the HK system is good when playing music through Bluetooth. Quick tip - adjust the SVC (speed volume control) and play with the EQ. I also found that adjusting the EQ on my iPhone made a WORLD of difference, so hopefully that helps someone.

The navigation system - major pro is how much more information it provides (for example, showing the exit signs for upcoming exits on the LCD). To contrast, driving home from OBX last year in the GTI I often found myself trying to figure out what the hell the stock nav was telling me to do when you're in a major merge/exit intersection. I imagine this is rarely an issue, but figured i'd mention it. The UI is a little clunky comparatively, but i think that's just learning curve. There's also an option to have the nav shrink down so as to not take up the whole screen, and I like that too. Further, voice control on the nav probably helps make up for the clunkiness, as you can control it with your voice anyways. I haven't delved real far into this, so i'll come back to that.

The "feel" of the touch screen is seemingly of lesser quality, and I'll admit glare may be an issue.

As also mentioned above, the car is very comfortable. The auto climate is a nice feature, the seats are plush, and the road noise is minimal. I'll also re-state that I LOVE being able have just one window down or the sunroof open. In the GTI it always felt like it was all or nothing unless you wanted to be blasted in the face (that's what she said) with wind and wind-noise.

On to what matters - This car feels like a fucking rocket ship compared to a stock GTI. Not only that, but the throttle is really responsive (as mentioned above). The turn-in feels incredible, and the car just feels planted to the road, regardless of what you throw at it. I haven't really "pushed it" yet since i'm still in break-in mode, but you can just feel it as you take an on ramp or effortless pass someone on the highway.

This was easily the stupidest "financial decision" of my short 29 year life, but man do i fucking love this car. I couldn't be happier.

TL; DR version: go drive one.

Thanks for the tips on the HK settings, I'll look into those. The interaction with the UI overall leaves something to be desired, but I agree that the navigation is actually pretty good.

The window thing in the GTI always annoyed me. Unless you have the windows exactly right you'd get a helicopter landing in your backseat.

I'm going to fill up once or twice before starting to track on fuelly. I ended up averaging 27mpg over 35k miles on the gti. I'm expecting 23-24 on the wrx, but we'll see.

In terms of driving... the wrx just wants to go fast. It almost takes more effort to drive slow than it does to go fast. It's no longer a barren wasteland of plastic on the inside, but it's definitely still a more raw driving experience than the gti. It's more sports car with practicality, the gti more practical car thats fun to drive.

I recognized the mini dealer behind it, did you get a good deal on the WRX? how about the trade in, did they give you a fair offer?

yeah, i ordered so i got 500 under invoice. they gave me a fair amount for the gti. more than carmax.

Agreed, on paper at least. I haven't driven either doe.

68 more hp, 58 more tq. Full time AWD.

I've driven a 2013 Si.. fun, smooth shifter, etc. but no doubt in my mind the WRX is a much better performer.

They are also at different price points... very different price points.

About 3-4K apart, yeah.

Yeah, they love to be flogged. It's one of those cars that you may not really enjoy unless you are fully driving like an asshole/like you stole it, lol. And great points on the practical stuff there.

Just got back from my first real drive. This thing is a blast.

I might have to start looking at some track days, see what thing can really do.
