No pic, sounds very nice.... They even got the guy who helped develop the A45 AMG too. WOW

Replacing the rear seats with a roll-cage, using thinner bucket seats in the front and fitting lighter alloys, along with a carbon-fibre roof and sections of carbon-fibre bodywork, would slash the R's 1,476kg (3,254 pounds) kerbweight. If VW can cut around 100kg, that would bring it into line with the front-wheel drive Golf GTI despite a significant power advantage.

Thoughts?

PS I'm not sure if this has been discuss before, I searched but found nth... if there was a post about it... feel free to delete it, mod. :)

Initial thought is, it was a mistake to hire the guy who developed the A45 AMG engine. From what I've heard, it's laggy, sounds boomy, and has a fairly narrow powerband for an OEM turbo.

It's the team that builds an engine's character, the guy at the helm is just the slavedriver so-to-speak.

This sounds pretty awesome, but I wish they'd do some real weight-shaving. Taking out airbags, aircon, radio and speakers... they could easily cut 300kg from the car by removing the non-essentials.

Air bags are pretty essential, and in AZ, so is air con.

Sounds fantastic but not holding my breath for a US release.

meh maybe they will bring a small amount to the US? If they price it right, this will be stealing the market from CLA 45 AMG.
Consider the reviews of "Normal" Golf R is already pretty good.... this thing should be up there with the AMG CLA. at least better looking...

So far VW is going good, they bringing the R & the S3.That's fair play. If they Indeed will be bringing the RS3 or the S3 Plus with this new engine, it would be brutally awesome to have it on the R Evo as well. Finger crossed

Was really hoping for a twin turbo V6. I think you could get there with a normal golf r and new turbo (minus the carbon bodywork).

I heard they're reviving the VR6. Would love an aluminum block narrow-angle v6 in my next car.
