2013 Civic SI Coupe Review

Gonna move this over from the Type R thread

My Honest opinion:

1) 2013 Is waaaaaaaaayyyy better than 2012 in terms of interior and chassis tuning

I haven't been in a 2013 yet. I have been in a 2012 and I agree, the interior is terrible. Worse than the 8th gen.

Did the suspension change at all for the 2013? I thought I heard rumors of a bigger sway bar and different spring rates.

The 2012 Si I drove definitely felt softer than my 8th with slightly more body roll, but the handling characteristics were more or less the same.

2) While the 9th gen has lost a lot of its "noise" and "experience" its gained in torque and thrill. There is a lost of spirit when the car doesnt rev so high, and the sounds don't get loud, but the 9th gen provides more power where it needed it.

Agreed, on all accounts. No spirit, whatsoever. It bored me to drive it quite honestly. The more useable power is certainly nice in day to day driving situations, but I'm not sure at the sacrifice of being a thrilling car to drive. Reminded me more of a 6 speed accord then it did Si.

7) Aftermarket is growing, but not quite there. But I'm starting to see some some S/Cs emerging and such.

The aftermarket is growing much more rapidly than it did with the 8th gen and that is the only thing saving it with the enthusiasts, imo. Flashpro was out in less than a year. It took 3 long years before it was ever released for the 8th. Also, the full race 3" exhaust and some quality 3.5" intakes are already out. These took years to release for the 8th.

That being said, its the ONLY offering right now for us. That's not ok in today's standings. However, there are good things to be had with the future. Development on the next gen has commenced, while there should be a flood of new models later this year and on into next.

The way I look at it, if I was in the market for a brand new car, I wouldn't strongly consider the 9th gen Si. And I'm an overall fan of Honda and their reliability. There are just too many better performing options out there these days.

I've had two generations of the SI. I had an '02 and a '07. Those that say the engine is not up to par for daily driving are not being realistic. I had more fun with wringing out those cars on the daily than I've had with the GTI.

Like previously stated it's just a different experience.

Agreed. I can see where people are coming from in a sense, but it is often over exaggerated. And with some very simple modifications (header and a tune) there is plenty of useable low end power to be a daily driver.

And Grambles, will do. Give me a few minutes to gather my thoughts lol

couldn't pass up the 6k off msrp and 0.9 financing. honda basically paid off my negative equity on the GTI and managed to put money down for me ;) i researched the changes on the '14 and tbh most i don't need. the led tails looks sharp though.

Yeah. Understandable. I think the newer models look much better in person too.

Agree. It's strange. Compared to my old K-series RSX, the engine in the GTI is almost too quiet and torquey. It'll pull in almost every gear, but I kind of miss that raw, unfiltered frenetic feel from the K-series.

There is a definitely a sense of raw attraction to the sounds of Honda induction. They actually sound more like a VVVRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMM than the GTI.

Sold my prelude to get into my '12 GTI. I did love that Honda, but I have always been a VAG fan. Oh, and hitting vtec never get's old!

No joke! Its cliche but damn its fun. puttttputttputtttt*click*VVVVRRROOOOOOOOMMMMM. Its much more evolved now to keep the crossover a bit smoother, but the methodology remains the same. A simple Hondata tune can knock that crossover point down too. :D

I actually have a buddy running open VTEC all the time. Basically bypassed the spool valve, mechanically, to deliver constant pressure to the cam. VTEC ALWAYS KICKED IN
