245/40R17 RE71RS vs 255/40R17 V730 for reference.

Both on 17x9 wheels.
I interesting. I didn't realize the RE71RS's ran so wide. The old RE71R didn't.

I'd take V730 over RT660 everyday down here in Florida. 660's don't like heat. V730 can take the heat and are grippy to the cords. RE71RS's, grippy to the cords. 660's turn into hockey pucks long before tread is gone. I've owned and run all three.

With an STH prepped GTI
Wear V730>RE71RS>RT660
Grip RE71RS>V730=RT660
Heat resistance V730>RE71RS>RT660
Speed RE71RS>V730=RT660

Size also plays a role my RE71RS in 235 35 19 on 8" rim aren't as grippy as RE71RS 255 40 17 on a 8.5" rim. The lack of sidewall is hurting grip under acceleration and braking. The lateral grip feels similar though.

Also, unless you drive a Miata or CRX, I wouldn't extrapolate how well a tire will work for you in a 3100+ lbs fwd car or 3400+ lbs AWD car.

At least TR testing is done with heavier modern cars. I tend to put more weight on that data.

What about RT615k? save money, they wear less, so you get more time in the driver's seat to improve driver mod.
Yes? No? Maybe?

Just waiting for Hoosier to get on with making the 255/40-17 already…
If you run with SCCA, they'll be a no go. Not enough tread depth.

They aren't on Champ cars approved tire list either. Oddly, they left the V730 off too. Crazy.

Just run unlimited with SCCA with those. ..you'll be in a group with a few cars and may actually have a better chance vs. street or tuner and certainly max.
