Fair question. I’m not THAT great of a driver -- still pretty new — but I’m not at the bottom of the STH pack, and finished first in the class last event of the year on summers against some decent drivers. Not generally competitive in the class overall and don’t expect to be.

I just want something that will allow me to not tear up my summer dailies 😂

So you did that with A/S tires, 200tw will be leaps and bounds better, save your daily tires, that I agree with.

Keep having fun, drive well. Worry about 235/245/255 when you compete at nationals.

Guess that’s my approach. I honestly couldn’t tell a difference at all from 245 to 255. My standings and class placement didn’t change one bit. My next set will be what has the better price point when I go to buy again.

280tw summers (Yoko v601). They hold up reasonably well on the course but at this rate I’ll need to replace them every 11-12 months.

Appreciate the input 👍

I’ll exit the thread now before I get beat up. :cautious:
nah, you're right. comparing slightly different widths on a relatively shitty tire is kinda pointless. imo the only comparison worth making is 245s vs. 255, but you're also comparing your AWD car to FWD. a bit more tire does a lot more even with mild power upgrades on a GTI vs an R.

It’s easy for me to forget the AWD advantage, thanks for the reminder.

245 40 17 on 7.5 was pretty much indistinguishable with 255 40 17 on 8.5.

I'm a fast, no alien local autocrosser, consistently top ten pax year after year.

Matt and I run same club. Our primary site is a really old asphalt runway so really low grip. Mod guys sometimes run 200tw because the surface is so bad, there isn't much of a difference in times, due to the surface.

Matt can listen to me or not, but there's really only 2 choices here for tire in 17. 245 40 17 or 255 40 17. If money means getting a 7.5, then it's 245 40 17. 8.5 or 9, then 255 40 17.

Surely those aren’t the only choices?. If I can save $120+ by getting V730’s in 235/45r17 that wouldn’t be an upgrade from where I am?

I’m not discounting your experience, but trying to build off of it — you know I’m not doing an STH “build” or a quest to be the top of my class. I’m a beginner trying to have fun without totally breaking the bank. RT660’s are pricey as heck in some sizes right now. PS4S money or more.

So I’m trying to make sure I’m not just exploring options that are “the best” but also those that are “good.”

Standard sizes like 225 45 17 and 245 40 17 are usually cheaper than odd sizes like 235 45 17.

I'd pick 225 45 17 before 235 45 17 if I wanted to save money.

I’d like a set of these. Took the pic at the Daytona paddocks last weekend at the Rolex 24.

I’d like these brake ducts as well….

We should have grabbed a beer.

There were C8.R front clips sitting by the fence, and thought that would make a nice souvenir, since they're moving to the GT3 car, but my wife wouldn't help me carry it. 🤣🤣🤣

Not bad for 9 days on track last year.

(The two on the left were used spares I bought but never used). The ones center and right were on my car all last year.

You can see the tread splices have nearly all disappeared on 3 of the 4 tires.

Off they come for V730s. See how they do next weekend. Do these things need a scrub in more than just getting the mold release off? Probably will just take a pretty easy first session bringing them up to temp.

9 days? They look almost new. Why are you swapping tires with that much tread left? Are they heat cycled out?
