That hasn't been my experience. Again, depends on your dealership service manager and hard they'll push for it to be covered. It might also depend upon your region. I'm in the Northeast and corrosion is pretty common.

My mk7 golf also has corrosion on both front wings and both rear arches. Vw said they would cover 50% at the cost to me of just under £1200 to rub back and treat the areas. I too have a case opened with the motoring Ombudsman. The adjudicator agreed with vw and said its caused by stone chips. I disagreed so the adjudicator has now passed it onto the Ombudsman and I'm waiting to hear back from them. Both front inner lips on the wings are all bubbled and the bottom corners have slight bubbling on them. Both rear arches are bubbling where the bumper meets the arch. I had the same problems on my old mk5 and had them repaired and replaced under warranty but not without a fight.

Are you going to get the IVIS inspection done? The vw dealership that looked at my car agreed it should be covered under warranty aswell. My car is a 2014 GTD with 61k miles and my case has been ongoing since the start of march this year. I really want mine fixed as I'm tempted to keep the car for many years to come as its great on fuel and at the moment still only £20 a year to tax. I'll update when I hear back from the Ombudsman.

This is my struggle as well. I wash and wax frequently, iron-x after every winter, and garage it.
I still get rust and mine is on all four corners this year and it is a 2016 (this will be its sixth winter only!)
I think the operative words are New York. What do they use on your snowy/icy roads there?

Chemically altered salt that offers the highest degree of corrosion. The latest in corrosive technologies!

I also have a ‘13 M-class with similar miles and nothing remotely close to rust besides the screw heads underneath the truck.
