Or maybe the new pump moves the oil more efficiently at a lighter weight? I’m just gonna run with a reputable brand at the spec recommended. My changes are done by myself at 5K intervals so I’m not gonna sweat it too much. I used liquimoly 5w40 on my 2016 stage 2 with no issues on 5K change intervals.

Someone mentioned the cult like following of Liquimoly earlier. For me it’s not so much that as their a German brand that makes VW spec oil and have never given me issues in my prior two GTI’s. I used them for my dsg service as well and the transmission behaved great after. More of a if it ain’t broke thing for me.

Well my oil cap (Subaru FA20DIT) says 0w30 only I believe, and 0w40 went in at 19960mi (fbo stg 2 e50 tuned) again as i literally just did my oil/filter change. Engine damage here i come.

How many use the fumoto quick drain valve? I havent converted yet.

How many are able to monitor in real time engine oil temp and pressure?

Fumoto valves are awesome if you do pan drains. I’ve had them on several cars (haven’t installed one on this yet).

Don't want to start a new oil thread, so I'll bump this to ask a stupid question.

I recently purchased two 1-liter bottles of LM Top-Tec from Amazon, because at the time, it was the only 508 spec that I could confirm as being available anywhere. ...but I also had a brain fart and thought I was getting a really good deal on ~5qt bottles....so I need more oil to do a change.

I don't want to spend another ~$80 on the 5qt bottle, so I was wondering if there is any issue in going with 5qts of a cheaper brand, like the Motul 0w20 and then topping off with ~1.5qt of the Liqui Moly 0w20, 508 that I have.

I've never mixed oils, but I figured if they are all at least 0w20, shouldn't be a big deal, right? I'd really like to save the $40 right now, having spent a lot of cash recently on tools and other holiday junk.

I need to do a 4k oil change, because my car has hit its 1 year birthday (well, back on January 1st). Purchased in April with very few miles, so it spent those 4 months sitting around. I don't want to push it too far beyond the 1 year date.

You're fine to mix other 508 oils as the additive packs will be pretty similar. You might be able to find the M1 locally for a good price.

Sounds like the Motul you have isn’t the 508 spec. If not, you really shouldn’t. If it is 508, then no problem.

FCP Euro offers lifetime warranty on their stuff, oil included. I don’t get how this works, but they do it and you can save a substantial amount of money after a few changes using their return policy.

Right, I guess my question is about mixing the 508 that I have, with non-508. ...so that sounds like a bad idea. I think I did find a cheaper 508, though...one of Motul's?
(what I have is LM 508; but was looking at non-508 from Motul)

I'll check again, and since I already have the 2qts/ltrs of 508, I'll look for that, or just get a cheaper non-508 for a full change and hang into the 508 that I have for the next change....which leads to a second question: does this stuff keep on the shelf for a year, as long as it's stored in controlled temps? (It will take me more than a year to put another 6k miles on :D)

DAP currently has Motul 508/509 @ $44 for 5 qts, which is a pretty good price anywhere. I'll just assume I can mix the LM 508 with Motul 508 and if my engine explodes, I will blame the internet!

That’s a good price. Certainly best to run 100% 508 even if you have to mix brands.

No idea how that works either and it's not sustainable. I change my oil every 4000 miles and drive that much every month.

Hey all, wanted to update this because my order arrived yesterday and thought you guys would like to know exactly what arrived, and at what price.

So, I ordered this from DAP, which is listed kinda generic: "0w20 508 509 spec....Genuine VW/Audi." I thought...wtf is Genuine VW motor oil?

whatever, I'll order it. less than 8 bucks for a court of 508 509, why not. ...it's still a good price if it isn't 508. whatever. So I ordered 6 bottles for $54 shipped--this is cheaper than the 5qt bottle of Motul...and it's also a free quart!

This is what arrived. So yeah, really happy with that price. I'm honestly not sure if it is a mistake in their listing--it did take about two weeks to arrive, which is fine, but they didn't seem to be out of stock so I was wondering if there was some debate over what to ship because of the generic item listing on the website, and they felt they needed to honor the 508 thing? well, the listing hasn't changed, so it's probably good.

I haven't really looked elsewhere, but FYI for those that want to stock up on 0w20 508 cheap: 6qrts Castrol Edge Pro for $54 (incl. shipping) from ShopDAP
