Daily Driver / occasional Track Day GTI ‘19 S

I’ve used 220tw Pirelli PZero for a couple track days and 200tw Falken RT615K for the most recent track day. The PZero give me about 90% of the performance of the RT615K but wear much more evenly from my experience.

    Black Rims for 2019 GTI

I like these affordable Sparco Assetto Gara. I use black wheel studs on them (the white metal studs in the pic were just to try them on for size as I took this pic the day I received them from Tire Rack last year).

Daily Driver / occasional Track Day GTI ‘19 S

That day at Homestead I was really pleased with the performance of the rotor/pad combo and was able to stay out as long as I wanted. Was also very pleased with how the 22mm RSB balanced out the dynamic of the car! Next up was a visit one again to the Alignment specialist. We went ahead with...

Daily Driver / occasional Track Day GTI ‘19 S

Over the years I’ve ruined several nice cars by making them too extreme in one way or another. I’ve taken these experiences and used this GTI to find a perfect balance between daily comfort and utilization while making it just responsive enough for the occasional track day (about once a quarter...

    2017 GTi PP at VIR

That’s what I noticed in the first of the pair of vids above! I can’t hear my car at the track at all and it’s a relatively loud daily driver. If it weren’t for the tach I wouldn’t know what is going on!

    Finally back on track! Homestead.

Good point. I usually make psi adjustments just from seat of pants over/under steer feel and keeping an eye on the rollover of the sidewall on the outer tread blocks. I liked the performance and overall balance with them at 35, therefore I just left them there. Now I see the result once the...

    Finally back on track! Homestead.

Today I swapped the front brake pads and wheel/tires back to daily driver mode. A few observations; Tires To my surprise I burned about halfway through the inner contact patch area tread depth of the front RT615K in just 3 sessions! They are about as worn as my set of Pirelli P Zero which I...

Lol! I left a little niche in the clutter to open the driver’s door just enough to squeeze out between a tire stack and a the lawn mower! It’s chaos in there!

Golf R on track - after 20 lap days

Ironically, I was talking to an R owner on Saturday who had to cut his day short due to brakes. He was on Yellowstuff!

Golf R on track - after 20 lap days

Was running at Homestead yesterday and saw an R running well with some cars of track pedigree. Agree that you can get the most out of factory calipers for your average HPDE use if finding the right fluid/pad. Yellow stuff are garbage from my experience with them in the past (was on an RX8)...

    Finally back on track! Homestead.

I forgot to mention... first track day that I use the 19lb 17” wheel combo. The weight savings is noticeable when going thru Turns 13, 14 as compared to the 25lb factory 18” Austins I ran with last February. Through that technical section, the car was much more responsive. Could also have to do...

Chasing a GT4 at Summit Point Main

Love the ability of an even just mildly tuned R to run with track pedigree vehicles! Good work!
