    IS38 1.8T Info/Discussion

UM tuned my DBV2 V1 Journal Bearing Hybrid Turbo, Precision Raceworks MPI, Walbro 525LPH LPFP. I am 6MT and 4motion. I don't think a FWD car would be any different from a tuning stand point other than you have a different transmission. I know what went into Nikolai's build, but I'm not allowed...

    Big(er) turbos and the 1.8

UM tuned proflex. Walbro 525 Hell Cat fuel pump. New Continental fuel lines rated for higher ethanol content.

    Big(er) turbos and the 1.8

Yeah these spool crazy fast on E85. You will be happy regardless! We are waiting for Nikolai to get back with clearances on the GLI exhaust camshaft. That should give us quite a low end boost. Come to Baltimore and I'll show you what you're missing!

    Big(er) turbos and the 1.8

According to Daniel, the V2 is too big for the 1.8. he has a client in Canada with a 4motion GSW who ordered the V2. I would message him on FB and see if that person has gotten it installed with any results. Either way, the TBB is the way to go. These engines can handle way more than we think. I...

    Big(er) turbos and the 1.8

They are currently the only tuner to offer MPI for the 1.8. Dynoing my car March 29 will definitely share results.

    Clutch slip with 6mt/4mo

Hey, Joe, You'll find that the South Bend Stage 2 Endurance clutch is enough to hold 465lb ft of torque at the crank. That's what I have been using for 15k miles and it hasn't skipped a beat since installing the hybrid turbo. I don't think that crank walk should be a concern for the 1.8.

    IS38 1.8 E30 - Upgraded Injectors Necessary?

Sounds like you got it all figured out then!! Excited to see results for the EQT! I missed the part about free IS38.

    IS38 1.8 E30 - Upgraded Injectors Necessary?

Do yourself a favor if you are going through all that effort, get a hybrid turbo from DBV2 and V1 TBB and frickin send it. I have a V1 Journal bearing and you could see full boost a full second faster than the JB. I'm dynoing my car in March and I'll report back with numbers.

    Big(er) turbos and the 1.8

He is assembling the cam assembly and measuring the piston clearance. He has measured the cam lobe from small end to big end and found a 1mm difference. So we should gain a touch more lift. He has said that the duration is the same based on lobe shape.

    Big(er) turbos and the 1.8

According to Nikolai it is a different P/N. And because it's a "performance model" I would think it has a bit more lift and possibly more duration. I had asked him to dig up the P/N next time he was at the shop. I'll bug him again this week and report back.

    Big(er) turbos and the 1.8

This thing hauls ass in boost. Haven't tried E85 yet. I have a half a tank of 93 right now. I'll probably give a few gallons a try when I fill up. Anyone have the gen3 GLI exhaust camshaft part number? Looking to add more valve lift next winter, and I hear it's pretty cheap. Cheers gang!

    Big(er) turbos and the 1.8

I am going to use the GLI exhaust cam when I go 2.0L and by then I'd like to upgrade to the TBB. I currently have a V1 Journal Bearing. I remember that you had it, but when your engine failed, you went with the GLI engine swap. Did you keep the DBV2?

    Big(er) turbos and the 1.8

I heard my car start this afternoon! It's leaving tomorrow to get tuned, and I should have it back on Friday! Also found an exhaust leak at the DP to Catback connection. Gotta find a solution for that.

Dear lord, that is a huge sigh of relief!!! Can't wait to see how far we can push it.

    Big(er) turbos and the 1.8

I am using UM for my build. We are using PR MPI and Fuel Pump upgrade to get the 400+WHP I am after. I'll add the flex fuel sensor and tune for that as well. We are modifying the stock intake manifold to fit the MPI fuel rail, since it will take over a month for a Euro manifold to arrive and I...

    Big(er) turbos and the 1.8

Excellent to hear. I have Neuspeed RSE10 18x8 and 225/40/18 PS4S for summer. Should be a riot when all is said and done. My Turbo is #137 and we did a huge group buy here in Maryland. I've spoke with Daniel several times about being the first 1.8T with his turbo. I went with Journal just to...

    Big(er) turbos and the 1.8

Thanks, Dad! So his was never properly tuned?! I should expect some more reliability out of my car with a UM tune, and just work with the stock HPFP and injectors until y'all can sort out the cold start idle issues with the 2.0 HPFP. Just 7 more business days and I'll have my car back!!

    Big(er) turbos and the 1.8

Bumping this thread from the dead. Unfortunately, my IS12 has siezed it's waste gate actuator at 53,634 miles. Fortunately for me, I have been holding onto a DBV2 journal bearing turbo for nearly 9 months and this presents the perfect time to get this installation done!! The existing...
