    STR38 Turbo

Took the Alltrack and STR38 turbo for some elevation testing this last weekend (above 5000 feet) and proper family duty testing. Not a single hitch and the pulling power throughout the entire RPM range (not just down low like the OEM turbo) is such a welcome improvement.

    STR38 Turbo

It's an optimization problem to solve. Get a turbo that is outside of the fueling window and you may lose some performance in terms of response and never get it back in the top end because you are out of injector. This turbo is definitely a sweet spot in that it does have headroom above the OEM...

    STR38 Turbo

Good question, this will depend on the rest of your setup. For example, an intake is worth about 10whp, intercooler 10-15whp ... etc. On pump gas you can expect to be around ~350whp on the 2.0 motor optimized. This is in line with how an IS38 will perform.

    STR38 Turbo

We've been tuning the MQB for a long time and have always wanted to put a nice upgrade package together for the IS12 and IS20 cars that was complete, reliable and performed! After lots of testing and parts selection I am super happy to have this available as a 400whp capable turbo that is a...

    P0420, Misfires, etc.

The most common things that cause misfires with these motors from the cars we tune and see. 1. Spark plugs - old or gap too large 2. Spark plug grounding 3. Coil packs 4. Injectors - dirty, leaking, aged 5. Excessive carbon buildup 6. Exhaust leaks

Stratified R Tuning Info and Help Thread

Another Flex build, this time with an HPA FR500 turbo. Tuned this car on the IS38 turbo originally (the plot is with E50 fuel) so it gives you perspective on what you gain up top with the hybrid compared to what the spool penalty is. The turbo is on the larger side of hybrids with spool just...

Here's another interesting finding while tuning this S3 on Cobb Tuning Flex Fuel This car is fully bolted with MPI and running a PMax GT2260s turbo. This S3 is also the highest power PMax car (469/469) we've had the pleasure of tuning on our dyno (and we have tuned quite a few of them). I...

Stratified R Tuning Info and Help Thread

This Flex kit and a tune if you have a COBB AP already. Past IS38 turbo size I recommend considering MPI due to ethanol needing to deliver more fuel to achieve target air fuel ratios. E85 for example needs about 30% more fuel delivery. E30 - 10% more...

Stratified GTI Tuning Info and Help Thread

Yup we can do flex. It's only $25 more to tune than an additional fuel map as we are essentially doing a pump gas map and then your ethanol map. You have to have the correct supporting mods in terms of fueling. E30 needs 10% more fuel and E85 needs 30% more fuel. So if injection time is past 8ms...

Stratified R Tuning Info and Help Thread

As you may know COBB recently released flex fuel support for the MQB GTI and R (and a drop in kit). You don't need to use their kit, you can wire in your own sensor like in the car below. This car has an OG BOSS500 (GTX2867), MPI and flex which I tuned up to around E60. Reverse tapered the...

E85 Mixed with Pump Gas on Flash Tunes

If the tune is more aggressive that the octane you are currently running, some ethanol will help keep it knock free and keep peak performance. E20 needs around 7% more fuel compared to straight pump gas - not an issue unless your fuel system is on the ragged edge. However I am a big proponent...

Stratified GTI Tuning Info and Help Thread

Our customers are worldwide - absolutely not issues. I can't wait for MPI support for MK8. Already it has an upgraded DI system so MPI will be the answer for all the fueling needs ... really just like it is on the MK7.

Stratified GTI Tuning Info and Help Thread

Ethanol requires more fuel volume to be delivered to maintain stoichiometric ratio. This is mainly because alcohol contains oxygen (CH3CH2OH). So when you want to keep a particular stoichiometric ratio (and are ingesting the same amount of air via the air intake/turbo) you need to deliver more...

    COBB Flex Fuel In Depth

Yes this has always been the case with these cars. They target the AFR in the tune in full time closed loop using the wideband at all times and if they can't meet the AFR they will cut out.

What are your overall power goals and how will the car be used? There are quite a few options for this car so this is a good place to start.

I was very excited when COBB released this product after a very long wait. Dove right in and made a video with lots of details about the install, tuning, fuel requirements and what to expect. Hope you guys enjoy!

Hi Everyone, we try and reach customers in a variety of ways to answer questions but social media and messages often end up in the black hole of the internet. Good point, I want this to be in the technical section since most of what we do is technical. Since they are separated I will put one in the GTI section as well.

Garrett Pmax Stage1 Turbo Deep Dive

On our dyno we got 360whp on pump gas. But our Mustang dyno reads low. About 14% below a dynojet. So on a DJ it would be around 410whp.
