    Gimmicky waste of time/money/effort mods

Change the front sway bar links? The rear ones I agree with, when changing to a stiffer bar, but why the fronts? I'd agree. My nephew has a GLI on Neuspeed "race springs" with stock dampers... we live in NE Ohio, you need some compliance for the roads around here!

    Brake Pads and SAE J866

My Brembo ceramic rears (P85095N) are stamped GG! I can't see what my matching front pads (P85144N) are stamped, I'd have to pull the calipers off. My observation: they feel great so far, but I haven't had a chance to really push them hard.

    USB C cable

Follow-up on the USB C right-angle cable... I had trouble with it disconnecting from Android Auto in the middle of a drive, plugging it back in fixed it, then it would disconnect again... I wondered if I had damaged it somehow, so replaced it with one of the other 3 out of the package, and got...

As of 2023, what are the go-to brake pads for spirited street driving?

BTW, my Brembo ceramics are now bedded in, did my first autocross yesterday, they feel fine. Granted, that isn't an event that would cause a lot of heat, and the weather was cool, but these felt at least as good as OEM, on track and on the road.

As of 2023, what are the go-to brake pads for spirited street driving?

But... the Ferodo pads are nearly $287 just for the front set! They seem ideal for the specified circumstance, but... Man! The price! EBC Reds and Yellows, as well as the Hawk Ceramics, are just above $150. The HP Plus are $227, almost as much as the Ferodo. The rear Ferodo pads are again...

    Manual trans fluid?

I went with the Febi Bilstein 75W, which I am led to understand is OEM fluid without the price. I seriously considered the Motul Motylgear 75W80, but nobody seems to be using that... So far, happy with the Febi Bilstein, shifts great, but the weather has been warm. (I don't expect any issues...

Differential fluid change without using an OBD11 to check temp first?

Not DSG, I drive a manual. In fact... I have never owned a car that was not a manual! (I've driven an auto... and my wife's cars don't count as having been "mine".) Back in the 70's, autos were performance-sapping and MPG-sapping, but things have changed. I drove my nephew's GLI with DSG...

    Manual trans fluid?

Found my tranny was one without the fill plug! Luckily, found a link to this: https://www.vwvortex.com/threads/6mt-fill-plug-missing-2017-gti-sport.9236511/page-2 Trouble is, I had read someone used 2.45 quarts, then after I filled, realized I had used liters, so had to drain some, I was not...

Differential fluid change without using an OBD11 to check temp first?

Thanks for the advice, all went well! The weather turned unseasonably warm, making this an easier task. Except... When I went to do the tranny fluid as well, 10k early but so long as I had it up on 4 jack stands and level... But, I had heard some transmissions don't have fill plugs... mine...

    USB C cable

Note: last night I remembered to test Android Auto with the new cable, Waze loaded quickly this time.(y)

Differential fluid change without using an OBD11 to check temp first?

One problem... I live in NE Ohio, so waiting for the ambient temperature is... holy crap! The high will be 70 on Tuesday, and up to 77 on Thursday! I think I've found my window of opportunity! That's 25-30 degrees warmer than today's high. I'll leave the diff fluid and the tranny fluid in...

    USB C cable

Nice! That's a sweet option! But... the short cable and phone face-down in the cubby works fine for whenever I need it. (Occasionally, that is.)

    USB C cable

Got the cable, it appears to work... but Waze loaded slowly. I'm not sure if that's an anomaly, I'll have to try it again, but I've been home and haven't gone anywhere.

Differential fluid change without using an OBD11 to check temp first?

No, differential fluid for sure, see here at about the 3:20 mark: If I knew "drive it around normally for 10-20 minutes to get it to the optimal temperature" or "drive until the oil temp reads 180, and the differential should be up to temp (68-104 degrees Fahrenheit") or whatever, then I...

Differential fluid change without using an OBD11 to check temp first?

It may take another week for me to get access to an OB11, and I want to change my differential fluid, while I'm doing all 4 brakes. I'm supposed to have the differential fluid to between 20 degrees and 40 degrees Celsius before I start, do I have to wait until I can measure that accurately with...

    USB C cable

Yes, you replied to my post... I didn't mention that I had already ordered the cable (actually, a 3-pack) prior to seeing your post. The cost is highly relevant, to a cheapo like me! "Just a cable" is what I was looking for, but I appreciate the option you brought up. What brand are you...

    USB C cable

I never knew they made wireless Android Auto dongles! I did a search just now, they look to be 10x the price of a simple right-angle cable... unless you have any recommendations that are better.

    USB C cable

I decided that a major issue that prevents me from just chucking the phone into the cubby is that the phone is longer than my last one, so the cable sticks straight out into my stick shift. So, I researched some right-angle USB-C cables, and found two on Amazon, one of which specifically stated...

    USB C cable

I'm tired of the USB C cable that came with my phone, using it to connect to Android Auto. Coiled up, it takes up the space in the cubbyhole, uncoiled, it goes all over. I tried a shorted one (Monoprice?) and had connection trouble, maybe it was too short, or defective? I got frustrated and...
