Unidentified variable speed tapping sound?

Hi everyone, just joined this forum as I've recently acquired a mk5 golf 2.0GT tdi.
Only done 800 miles & it has developed a rapid ticking/tapping sound when the car has warmed up, sounds almost like a bike chain when you stop pedalling, & the speed of the sound changes when the clutch is pressed or in a different gear or stopped. It doesn't sound in tandem with the engine, there are no knocks or squeaks. I've done much searching on the Web but can't seem to find anything relating to what it sounds like so at a bit of a loss.

This forum, albeit GolfMKV, is mostly used by those with the EA113 2.0t BPY engine. With some standard Golf 2.5L petrol folks.

VWofAmerica did not bring any Golf diesels to the U.S. during the MK5 period. And most here are from the US and will not have much to offer for a TDI.
