Your job was amazing my friend. Congratulations. I'm impressed with your job. I have golf gti mk 7.5 2019. I live in Brazil, but whole GTI is mounted in my Country was had downgraded of many functions, for example, DLA, Lane Assist, manual hand brake, etc... How can I know if my headlight is compatible with system DLA? My car have whole modules, including CAM high, that you described in your post, but I don't know if my headlight led is 8IU.
Thank you and congrats again. Your job was amazing

First, I want to thank George Ab for putting together the “DIY: OEM Lighting Package (AFS Xenon) Retrofi,” guide, it inspired me to tackle this DIY. I also want to thank the guys at obdeleven forum for posting their adaption maps so I can figure out the coding.

I purchased my 2019 GTI last March. I was super excited to upgrade from a Jetta but in the process, I overlooked a few things. The biggest blunder was not getting the lighting package. Since my daily commute is long and I’ve almost hit a few deer in the morning due to low visibility. I felt upgrading the halogen lights was a worthy investment.

Update:
  • 15-Oct-2020
    • Updated module 4B Coding to fix errors, added City Lights, Highway lights, and High Beam Assist
    • Updated module 09 to include High Beam Assist
    • Added coding for module A5 and High Beam Assist
    • Added Light Assist settings

Things to know
  • This is a Next Level Retrofit that requires money, time, plenty of patience, and at times prayer
  • Disconnect your battery before messing with anything electrical
  • I’m not responsible if you screw up your car
  • I am open to answering any questions to the best of my ability
  • The LED lights are sort of non-serviceable, so the housing already has the bulb
  • There are 3 versions of the LED lights, 8IT, 8IU, 8IX (US version with amber reflector are based on this model)
  • Only the 8IU is capable of full dynamic light assist (dual beams that dynamically adjust)
  • The lights require two modules. One controls the power and the other the vertical/horizontal axis
  • The modules have firmware specific to the type of light they are being used on (in case you source your parts second hand like I did)
  • One headlight was sourced from someone that said it was new but never installed. It had the proper modules attached. I'm no sure if new lights ship this way so please confirm.
  • The light modules are program by the 4B module. So, if you did like me and got a used module coded for the wrong vehicle (or a virgin one) it needs the proper firmware and parameters loaded to actually work
  • Parameters/firmware can only be loaded by VCP or ODIS
  • The official wiring diagram is garbage and the engineer who did it should be fired
    • Someone posted a link on the vortex “Shop manuals for MK7.5,” this manual is better than the one in the erwin.vw.com site which requires paid access
VAG Parts list
  • 3Q0907338C – 4B Multifunction module
  • 8W0972420A - 4B Multifunction module wire terminal
  • 7P5941572A - Main Power LED Module (1 for each light)
  • 8V0907399D - LED Control Unit Module (1 for each light)
  • N10708601 - Screws for the modules (I got some from Lowes that have the same thread and cut them to size)
  • 5Q0512521J - Level Adjust Sensor (not needed if you have DCC)
    • M5 bolts/washer/locking nuts - I think I went with 12mm bolt length
  • 5GM941077A [5GM941059A - old] – GTI US - Left LED Headlight
  • 5GM941078A [5GM941060A – old] – GTI US - Right LED Headlight
  • Wire harness – got it from AliExpress, I didn’t see one that was exactly for the LED lights so you will need to massacre this one to make it work. PAY for the faster shipping!

Special tools/parts (almost everything can be sourced from Amazon)
  • Terminal removal tool set – needed to re-pin the cables
  • Body panel tools – makes taking panels off easy
  • Soldering iron/solder
  • Heat shrink assorted set – to properly protect splices (I started with electrical tape but this is better)
  • Tesa Tape 51036 – to wrap your engine wires (one roll should be enough)
  • Tesa Tape 51608 – to wrap your in-cabin wires (one roll should be enough)
  • Torx bit set – I think T40 and T30 are the ones I used but get a set if you don’t have one
  • 5 AMP mini fuse – for the headlights (1 per light)
  • VAG Connector Removal Tool – makes taking the headlight plugs off easier
  • OBDeleven/VCDS/VCP/ODIS – to reprogram module 9, 19, and 4B
  • VCP – if you source parts from ebay from random cars like I did, you will need VCP to load the proper firmware and parameters (apparently ODIS can do this)
  • Screw drivers/sockets/scissors/a good playlist

My friend, I have a doubt: Is it possible enable DLA with headlight code 8IX or just with 8IU?
Did you knew enable some function with headlight 8IX?
Probably just FLA instead of DLA, right?

Thanks

I've heard of other users having errors after changing to ECE. I'm not sure if they did basic settings followed by acknowledge bacis settings after changing the long coding. Its a hard requirement if you change the long coding. I did flash my 4B and loaded the parameters from VCP like you mention so that could also be the difference but it does work if I set it to NA. However, last time i had it set to NA, the lights didn't move as much.

hey I’m having issues with the basic settings part— I’ve done all the wiring, installation. 4B only has the one error (basic light settings), 29 & 39 have no errors, & D6/7 both have one error each.

The only step I can’t successfully code is this damn basic setting part.

What needs to be done to convert 7.5 halogen 10-pin to 7.5 LED 14-pin with basic features only (DRL, turn signal, low/high beam)?

Retrofit or just looking to upgrade the headlight? Easiest way is to just toss in an Helix/BEC/Osram or other aftermarket headlight that will connect to the 10 pin harness. The lights will be static, but you'll have dynamic turns and DRLs along with LED lights.

Retrofit it depends on if you're willing to make your own harnesses. Otherwise you're looking at something like this for the 7/7.5:
You'll need wiring, perhaps a new CAN Gateway and BCM depend on your current versions and pins. If those are good you'll need the headlight AFS module, headlights and their modules, perhaps a rear level sensor, and the new wiring between the BCM, CAN, AFS Module and headlights.

Doing a partial retrofit on my MK7 with Osrams and the VW Euro low line AFS module for auto leveling.

I currently have replica headlights, going on 3 years now.

A few of the LED's in the DRL are no longer working so I'm just exploring options. I'd like to get a "forever" set of headlights or repair the LED's in the replica set.

Osram's are nice but I dislike that the styling for the 7.5 version is the same as pre-facelift.

If you can check your BCM and CAN gateway pins to make sure you have the needed pins already, you'd pretty much just need the wiring kit, AFS module, and the headlights with their modules. GTI Headlights with modules can be found for pretty cheap if you're willing to hunt used. I went with the Osrams on my MK7 as they were cheaper than the GSW/AllTrack Xenon's when I was shopping, else I'd have done a full retrofit with all OEM.

Good afternoon guys,

I have a problem with my upgraded headlights. I went from my
current headlights: 5G1 941 035 / 5G1 941 036 to my new headlights: 5G1 941 081 / 5G1 941 082. Both fully LED only one has single daytime running lights and static cornering lights and the new dual daytime running lights and dynamic cornering lights. I mounted the modules needed on my headlights aswell. But now when i start the car, only the normal led bulbs are on. No drl no high beam no flashing light, nothing. What is my next step i need to do now? Do i need someone to put the software in or am i missing modules?
I would appreciate the help

Greetings from the Netherlands

have you coded 09 module to suit new headlamps? you need to scan bcm adaptations and cross reference your adaptations with the ones thats been uploaded on this thread, i upgraded my 8ix to 8iu and found 20 different adaptations that needed to be changed, its very easy when you know what need changing. just concentrate on the leuchtes below.

I haven’t coded anything yet, i am searching for someone who can. Is it just a matter of coding or do i need to change another module somewhere?

I thought it might work right away because my headlights were almost the same except for the double drl
your originals are 8it pr code, the new ones are 8iu, i swapped mine from 8ix to 8iu and had to code 20 more features.
do you have any kind of vw diagnostics? obd11 is the easiest to use for this.
