Through a bit of a mix-up I've acquired a set of 255/35/r18 tires on 8.5" ET45 wheels. I know 245/40 can rub due to the increased outer diameter, but I've also seen people claim to run 265.

Does anyone have any experience with this size or know if it will fit? For reference I'm on a stock R, and I've measured the section width to about 9.7"

My R was lowered about an inch and I ran 255/35R18 Dunlop ZIII tires on 18x9et45 wheels with no issues whatsoever. I also ran 265/35R18 on the same dimension wheels with the ride height raised a half inch or so after installing Ohlins coilovers.

35 aspect ratio seems silly on your 18's. not really accomplishing anything.

your overall diameter is exactly the same size as a 225/40 tire so unless you want an oddly skinny sidewall on 18's go for it.

just get 235/40 or 245/40 tires

cliff,
I remember from your build thread that you were running additional front camber, so I'll check for tire to fender rub. Did you do the fender screw mod?

absoluteczech,
35 aspect ratio means it has the same sidewall as 225/40. My preference would be 235/40, but these are the tires I've ended up with.

I'm one of the few that run 265/35R18's. Nankang AR-1, Pirelli Trofeo R and RE71R's.

I was running 2.5 deg front camber, but the car was also lowered significantly while you're at stock ride height. I never did do the fender screw mod. A 255 is a nice meaty tire and a safer fitment than a 265.

If you don't have any camber upgrades, this will probably rub on the fenders.

I have 18x8.5 +45 wheels.

I had 235/40 Re71R and they rubbed on the fender screw at -0.5 camber.

I now run 255/35 RS4 and they do not rub at -2.4 camber.

On my setup with the 255/35, I would rip my fenders off without the camber.

Was curious because I picked up a set of 18x9 ET45 Neuspeed RSE11's that were on clearance and am debating between 255/35R18 or 244/40R18 tires. For reference I have a 2017 Golf R DCC with stock suspension.

Gotcha, nice looking ride, anyways i was doing some more research and it seems like the golf R doesnt have the same issue with rubbing on the gas filler tube as the GTI. I was reading the Apex wheels thread on this forum and that was their main reason as going with a 42 offset on 18x9 wheels instead of 45. Will most likely be going with 255/35's as they are basically the same price as 245/40 tires and are a better fit for my 18x9" wide wheels
