They think they can use one respirator for two patients with a simple Y-connector. I don't know the mechanics but I would want exhaled air to filtered, if possible.

Oh ya, he definitely got it at the casino. The lodge disinfected their building and shut down for 2 weeks once they got word he was sick. The casino was still open and not answering to anybody.

The UK governments scientific and medical advisors state that any measures put in place will take around two weeks to show any effect.

Doesn't help that we're taking 5-7 days to get test results back too, so even that puts us a week behind it.

Theoretically you can, but in reality, it's more complex than that. A lot more complex, especially if the two patients conditions diverge.

In the UK, you've been more aggressively testing. I worry that we won't really know one way or another because we started testing so late and it was already community spread widely throughout the US before we started testing. It stands to reason, that even if the measures have helped, numbers will still climb as testing becomes available. The real measure in my eyes will be if we overwhelm the hospitals or not. The actual numbers themselves won't tell us much. A year or so from now, they'll determine that the number infected was massively underestimated in the US. I'm hoping that our younger population, lower percentage of smokers, and lower population density compared to Italy and Spain means that we see lower numbers hospitalized and lowers the mortality rate.

I think it's inevitable, just because I feel like hospitals are already nearly at capacity even without a pandemic. In 2017 my dad went in for kidney problems and on the first night he had to stay in the hallway because they didn't have any rooms. This was in the middle of summer, it was July, busy season in FL was well over and they didn't have room.

Just saw this too - https://www.cbs46.com/news/atlanta-...cle_495755b8-6e92-11ea-b9ba-5ff9aadecb3b.html

I work with multiple hospitals in the north Florida area and census has actually been pretty low. They all stopped elective procedures and are converting post op and surgical units to covid units. You have to remember, hospitals make their money off of surgical patients, radiology and lab services, so they dedicate significant space and resources to maximize the areas of care that generate money. On the downside, hospitals are losing money right now with elective procedures canceled and they're having to pay up to 4 times normal hourly rates to get nurses right now and supply costs have skyrocketed. This pandemic perfectly demonstrates why a for profit health care system is a terrible idea.

So I don't think it's inevitable, we have more capacity than it seems from the outside, but it's looking highly likely if the number of cases really are increasing at the rate that positive tests are increasing..

I'm only 8 years retired from the military and they can call me back up to 10 years. If it hits the fan, I'll be pulled for a field hospital or to back fill at the local Naval Hospital. It would be the easiest as I was last credentialed there. I'm not volunteering though, I've got RAD and asthma, so I'm high risk, but there is a lot of nurses, PA, doctors, etc... and we'll hopefully be able to staff most hospitals.

If nothing else, this has just exposed how unprepared and arrogant our culture truly is.

Per our governor at 2pm:

MN just got a “stay at home” order issued and effective 11:59pm Friday for 2wks.

The epidemiologists and public health officials from Mayo, UMN, and state/fed using cell phone telemetry and other big brother methods show that the “just stay home please” request dropped our exposure rates by 50%. Of 235 ICU beds, 16 occupied state wide. The models they are using, show the same infection and hospitalization numbers, but push the curve to the right on the timeline by a few weeks. This allows us to get our shit together before it hits us hard.

Governor said we are not going to stop it, or protect anyone, we are hunkering down to just delay the inevitable at this point.

Glad someone in a leadership role is saying what’s actually going on.

We are the home of MedTronic (15% market share for ventilators), Honeywell and 3M, both makers of the masks everyone is talking about, amongst other shit that’s helpful.

I know 7 machinists that work for various independent shops, all are at work cranking out ventilator parts three shifts a day. My buddy that works for a local 3M plant has been authorized unlimited OT.

Meanwhile still have a dry cough and wife has low grade fever.

I wish I could have an antibody test to see if I already have it.

Got a feeling my county is pretty close to ordering everybody non-essential to stay home. Desantis is still saying he doesn't want to do a state-wide shutdown, but there's already 13 counties/major cities that have done so. It's looking like we're next. They said they're going to vote in a day or two.

Got notified today that my company is extending mandatory WFH until at least 4-17, so another 3 weeks. School is closed until May-15.

What are you guys doing with your retirement portfolios? Staying the course or moving things around?
