Hello Golfmk7.com.
Im posting link to Danish forum called VAGcars.dk.
http://www.vagcars.dk/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=94306
We're now starting to sevel cars with crack in paint at the rear end of the roof.
This result in rust build up in the crack.
I know you dont understand the danish in there - but please look at the pic and check your own car.
We'd like your response if you have heard of the problem..... As we see a build up of these cases on danish golf mk7.
The first white car on page 1 is 1 year old and the gray car on page 4 is completly new!
Looking forward for your response - thanks.

Agree - but we'd like you to check you car to see if you have the same problem - where ever you are from in the World.
In UK the cars should be from the same production line...

  • Mk7 Golf Estate TSI / “Sportswagon” as it’s called in SE. 8 months old. No trace of cracks, seems to be fine.
  • Mk7 Golf R, 2 months old. No trace of cracks, seems to be fine.
The estate is more smooth in the surface “around the corner”” than the hatchback, a bit rough, have just esthetic impact.

I don’t want to poke in the area with a needle or something. I guess there is some sealant under the paint, around the corner. In some cases the paint cracks, sometimes also the sealant cracks. If you get a deep crack perhaps you get rust….

VW:s are whole galvanized but I suppose there is a welding which normally is more rust prone.

Hope you get it sorted out Mike :).

It looks like its the "fat" sealer that crack - seen a few from production start with less sealer and they look fine. We are at least 4-5 people here in DK with G7 that have cracked or going to soon... All cars are between 0-1 year.

This sounds logical. With thick sealant it takes longer time to dry out. During drying many sealants shrinks which have impact on the painted surface (if already painted).

Yes - and we have found a fully new car in showroom with the same issue :(
But this sealer error must be in all cars - as only 2 factories make the Golf7 as far as I know (in Europe).

Ours are from “P” Zwickau (Mosel) and “W” Wolfsburg.

But I'd really like the reponse of the G7 owners in here - if their car has a sealing/paint crack in back end of the roof like in attached link.

The white car is 1 year old - the grey is in a showroom completely new.

Thanks for adding the pics. It looks poor prep prior to paint to me :-:)-:)-(.

Will have a look at my Golf later. Mine is all of 8 wks old. I never noticed when detailing the car 8 wks ago.

My own is only 1½ weeks old... no crack yet. But sealing looks strange in that area - just like the ones in pic above. We also have a few cars older than one year that looks totally different. They have nearly no sealer in the same area... so no cracks in these (see attached pic).
