Rattle from engine bay

My first post here and it is a question to my fellow Golf 7 drivers. I have a rattle coming from my engine bay when the turbo is boosting and I slightly lift off. I cannot hear it from inside the car while all windows are closed but it is quite clear with the driver's side window is open.

I had my car at the local VW dealer last week Friday to check what is causing the rattle and they found it to be the waste gate actuator arm. VW head office advised them that they are aware of the issue and there is no fix to be done yet.

Anyone else experience this rattle?

I have a mk7 1.4 122ps and this rattles about 2500rpm. Very annoying and sometimes embarrassing. This is my 2nd mk7 golf and both have had the rattle. I'm taking mine back in....again!

Have you had yours diagnosed yet?

I have this noise quite loud in my 122bhp 1.4 tsu. All turbo cars make some sort of noise when you lift off since boost pressure must be vented so I haven't worried. It does sound most unusual though. Keep us posted if you find out anymore.

My 1.4 Tsi 122 Golf had the same rattle and the cure has been to fit a complete new wastegate.

Service Manager assures me that the work wasn't to fit the clip fitted to the actuator arm.

Its a strange noise from before - sounds like a leaking exhaust or leak at the manifold. You cannot hear it when stationary, even if you take the revs up to 2200 to 2500.

Rattle noise gone

Hi guys...just got my MK7 from service because of rattle noise in engine. They have replaced and fitted a new waste gate clip on the engine. I have tested the car and so far no trace of the rattle. Hope it stays that way:rolleyes:

The clip is being fitted to my Golf in morning, and from what I have read about this problem (which has been around since at least 2011 on the 1.4 122ps) its a good fix. Cannot wait to get rid of the rattle.

Hi Guys, does anyone know if this issue is restricted to the TSI engine? I have had GTD for 3 days and is making a noise that sounds very similar to that described, but under acceleration. It's ok when cruising but is particularly noticeable in lower gears when pulling away. sounds like a tappety type noise or exhaust blowing... Will take it to the dealer tomorrow for a checkover. Hope it's nothing serious , I've only done 300 miles!!

Noise in engine

Good morning I joined this forum due to the rattling noise made by the turbo shaft(don't know all the technical terms). I have had 3 clips fitted and now finally they replaced the the vacuum unit regulating the shaft movement, but the noise is still there.

Anyone have any suggestions? My local service manager is as frustrated as I am. Everything the factory has proposed as a fix, has not worked.

Hi David, my issue was traced to the injectors. Engine was ok when first started, but once warm the rattle was very noticeable. Dealer changed the injectors and all now well. Just over 4k miles now on the clock.
