Edit: I am editing to add that currently on three continents this document does not appear on anyone's system as a circular.

I have seen someone circulating this today and only half the page for obvious reason so I though I would make everyone aware of changes that have occurred in terms of tuning and piggy back at dealer level.

In essence nothing has really changed, the codes are still the same. The factory has made it easier on a dealer level to see cars that should be flagged. On the piggy back side there is flag called a TB1 that they have as - Suspected Tuning with tuning box.

From the time we did the JB1 development we where aware that the easiest way to detect a box is by having short term fuel trim trigger points. This was confirmed by the sources that may be. Our unit avoids using ECU adaption of fuel trims due to rail pressure hence no issues have ever arisen. What is strange is that the unit they have pictured has been tested as well with no flag coming up neither.

In terms of flash tunes it seems that the hardware version of the control unit changes from H to X. We had a look at a couple of flashed cars and they still show H so not sure if this was even implemented.

So how likely would it be for a dealership to be able to catch the JB1 with this new system assuming we take it off and drive a 100kms or so before bringing it in?

Or has nothing changed at all, as this is what I get from the info above.

Nothing has changed at all. The 100km is not necessary neither, the trigger points work differently and its not a average but something like if X exceeds Y log and store a freeze frame of the event.

Thanks George!

Roid, from my understanding of George's post, it is highly unlikely since the JB1 modifies the fuel pressure so the trims look nornal. With other boxes, your trims might be positive 20 which means it's adding fuel to compensate. On the JB1, the open loop setting adds fuel pressure so our trims are around 0 like factory.

This being said George, would they suspect a higher fuel pressure for a piggyback?

Ok, got it! JB1 and carry on!

Looks like the competition might be slowing down for you George after this hahaha.

George, can you elaborate on this point? I'm having trouble picturing how the hardware version could be changed due to a flash tune.

What the heck is "Suspected tuning with tuning box" lol?? Either they can detect it with the ECU or not. All other 3 flags state "Modification to blah blah blah".

I'm assuming the unit obviously wont be visible. We supposed to sit there and argue with the Service writer? "Yes it is", "No it isnt" :D

It does not see the fuel pressure change as it tries to achieve its target by holding the valve closed. If anything fuel pressure is lower.

What it is claiming is if the car is flashed the hardware version of the ECU will change from H22 to X22 ( I am using 22 as example in the Golf R). This may only happen after the car is put online although we have not seen this neither.

I wonder if this has got anything to do with dieselgate and the *ECU modification*, they might be trying to get out of trouble by shifting blame for their fleet.

I doubt it, I am starting to doubt the validity of it as well. The service number is cut off. The service number on a photocopy I have seen is also smudged and no one has ever seen this on ELSA in a dealership and its five months since the date on it.

Probably a troll from Anti-Rice.com or something (if that still exists).
