Doesn't every car have a diffierential on them?
Our R uses two systems to simulate a mechanical limited slip differential: Electronic Differential Lock(EDS) and Cross Differential Lock(XDS). Both of these systems use the brakes.Doesn't every car have a diffierential on them?

The mechanical heart of this system is the “Haldex coupling.” The coupling is an electro-hydraulically operated clutch that is capable of attaching and decoupling the rear axle. Under normal driving conditions the Golf R sends power to its front wheels only, saving fuel. When the coupling engages, though, it can send up to 50 percent of the power to the rear axle.I didn't think the R's or R32 were permanent 4wd, the other two wheels come into effect when required?
Nal and George, for the R platform can an LSD be installed in both the front and rear?thanks george for the feedback glad to know you are enjoying the wavetrac LSD.
I too have bought the wavetrac LSD but have not installed it yet.Previously i had the quaife LSD for my gti. i think the wavetrac is a superior design. The LSD will improve mechanical grip of the car.it will not interfere with the XDS braking system already equipped on the R that mimics an LSD.It can never match the feel and confidence of application of grip to both wheels that the LSD will give.

Interesting... I haven't noticed this. Going to try and duplicate. There is nothing available for the rear, if there was I would jump on it. The car also seems to send more power to the rear right always, sometimes you feel the break binding and it squats down on that side on launches.
Thanks Nal; have you heard of any companies developing a modified 5th generation haldex controller?TecklenburgVW - the LSD is installed at the transmission so since the R is front biased most of the time it's primary work is done at the front and occasionally the haldex will shift power to the rear under certain conditions.when the haldex controller for the 5th generation is released, then one will be adjust bias manually to the rear.until then we have to be paient with it.
George - did u also uprated the dsg clutch when u installed the LSD?
Good stuff.HPA is working on one, and supposedly United Motorsport is as well.
