Just ordered an Oryx White GTI Clubsport

Location
St. Olaf
Running same kind of tires* and on very most and dry tracks,
GTI Clubsport is faster than R. If wet, self-evidently R will be
quicker. Granted, there may exist some particular tracks, where
an R is equal or even a tad faster even when dry. All in all, lap
time differences aren't huge. It's mainly the feel which is diffe-
rent.
Some prefer the R, some prefer a GTI Performance or Clubsport.

* tires make huge differences on track; any different tires would
significiently affect any comparison of both cars

Unfortunately the Clubsport comes with mediocre Bridgestone S-
001 (225/40 on 7,5x18) as standard, while it should have come
with 235/40 PSS or SC6 or at least P Zero on 8.0" wide wheels.
Of course optional wheels are available, Brescia with 225/35 R19
P Zeros and Pretorias with 235/35 R19 PS Cup 2 (R-compounds).
I didn't opt for theme, since the standard Belvedere wheels are
forged and only 7,6 kg (16.7 lbs), while the Brescias are heavy
as lead and the nice Pretorias are bloody expensive. Even more
I didn't want R-compounds.
So to me staying with the ultralight standard Belvedere wheels
and swapping the BS-BS for a set of PSS seemed the best option.

Bottom line all MK7 models are good cars.
Just fun to debate it.

Congrats!

What tires are these? I ask since these obviously are no Michelin PS Cup 2 R-compounds.
We can only order Pretorias with compulsory PSC2s here.

Btw, did you wrap the lower part of the front?

Tires are Pirelli, and the lower part is indeed wrapped.

I was actually referring to Ali & Sons..the Base R is 164K and it comes with DCC, Sunroof parking sensors, rear view camera, 18" Cádiz rims etc..basically it's just missing 8" screen and leather seats. top spec clubsport with leather seats is 157k, hence not a big difference. Your not only paying for AWD..your paying for all the upgraded internals, AWD, bragging rights, that blistering acceleration (no wheel spin & torque steer) from 0-100 in 4.9 seconds and more top end power as the gti and GTI clubsport will lose breath after around 120km or so while the R will keep on going. In the end it's all about the budget, they are all great cars but I wouldn't pay 157k for a gti and the R is 164, but that's just me.

well i agree with you but it will be a bit of a hustle to get the car from Abu Dhabi and register it here in dubai then go to Abu Dhabi everytime for the maintenance, plus also i feel that here in dubai that extra power in the R and the AWD will not be much of (usable) difference compared to the Clubsport, but maybe i'm mistaken, to be honest the GTI was like a love from first sight :D and then the clubsport came with agressive look, so it was a done deal for me,, at the end all Mk7 variations are just brilliant

Ali and Sons dealer is better than Nabooda. All Golf R trims (package 1,2,3) comes as standard with DCC, Sunroof, parking Sensors, rear view camera, auto stop start, lighting package, etc. As it stands it's like this:

Package 3: all the options I mentioned above - sticker price 164k
Package 2: adds leather seats and 19" Pretoria - sticker price 175k
Package 1: adds discover pro nav (8" screen) - sticker price 182k or if you add ACC the sticker price will be 184.5k.

Golf GTI Clubsport

Package 2: 145k
Package 1: adds leather seats and 8" discover pro. Sticker price: 157k

And from what I hear A & S give better discounts than al naboodah and both offer 5 years warranty and 3 years service contract as standard

Hope this helps. Good luck

Many thanks for the detailed info, Ali&Sons configuration looks reasonable and well structured, unlike Al Nabooda's which is quite confusing. VW Middle East should have specific structure applied to all dealerships

I've changed my order from the Oryx White with 19" to the Pure White with 18", Navigation and Sunroof

I started to like more the 18" since there are also lighter than the 19" and to be honest i wanted the 8" screen, only thing i'm upset about is the Oryx White not available in that trim :(

Indeed 18" looks somewhat small in the MK7, but you can always replace them later. Here is mine with 19" black Pretoria wheels.

this looks amazing, congratulations..

the black wheels with red outline looks nice with the white paint and the red line on the mirrors

appreciate if you can please post some side pictures for the car, i might copy your idea and do the same with the 18" standard wheels :D thanks

This second tire would be a great track tire for Clubsport.
Both summer tires.
Not sure if sold in your area.

Unfortunately neither of these tyres are available in my area. Would the PSS be a safe option, not really interested in track tyres.

As requested, the car is also lower on VWR springs.
