Rust in Trunk Area?

Just noticed this when loading something in the trunk. Car is only 2 months old.

I bought a new vw because I was tired of the rust issues on older Mazdas that I had. This is pretty sad to see.

Anyone else experience this?

Looks like maybe the paint rubbed off

The weird thing is I don't see anywhere the paint is flaking.

And now I need to go check my hinges...

I wonder if yours was maybe a manufacturing defect, where the paint didn't cover the whole bracket, and now it's got surface rust.
