I have a TDI, but assume it's the same as it was on my mk5/6. It should be located behind the side skirt on the passenger side behind the front door.

You unclip it from the bracket that holds it in place.
Then you have to disconnect the fuel lines. You push the fuel line further into the filter while pressing the releases on either side of the line - it'll make sense when you do it.
Once both are off pop the new filter in.

The final step is to prime the fuel system. Put the key in the ignition and turn it to the accessory position. You should hear the fuel pump under the rear seats. Do this maybe 2-3 time and then start the car.

The whole process takes 10 minutes tops - very easy.

There may be some confusion concerning diesel models. Diesel models mention replacement every 20kM in maintenance manual for high sulfur countries; 60kM for US Canada. Nothing for gas engines.

This is per Market A, B, and C. USA and Canada is market A so 60Km for Diesel only.

Diesel Fuel Filter, Replacing
• Only applies to Polo
and Touareg
Every 60,000 km Every 30,000 km Every 20,000 km

some information-

The fuel Filter is part of the LP fuel pump(under the passenger rear seat)----to replace the filter will require the replacement of the pump! BTW--- there is NO service interval for this item per the GTI MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE...
