Ok to hardwire a radar detector

Would like to hardwire a Beltronics Magnum detector into the interior lights that are between the windshield and headliner, but don't want to start any issues with my 2017 GTI SE's electrical system.

I would recommend wiring that back down to the fuse block to be honest and just getting yourself a switched 12v source from there.

That said I believe someone used existing wiring up there to wire up a garage door button. Golfdave or Sandman maybe?

Decided at least for now to go with a mirrormount for the detector and use one of the cars 12v receptacles. The cord looks a little cheesey, but it's better than getting stopped, or invoking the wrath of the GTI electronics gods.

I wires my Valentine 1 radar down to the fuse block. It works fine.

Follow the dash cam hardwire thread linked in my sig. It's the best way.

The power up top in the dome lights is somehow too inconsistent from what I've found in threads from people who have tapped it.
