New GTI - blown out temperature sensor

At 1000 miles it looks like the temperature sensor blew out of its home on the side of the radiator - leaving me (currently) stranded on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere CA, waiting for road side assistance, and most of my coolant down the side of the car. Anyone have a similar issue? Hopefully the engine is OK - pulled over as soon as I noticed it - temp gauge was buried in the red Babied this car during owner's manual recommended break-in. Not a great start for the VW ownership experience.

Wow. That does suck. That's not normal at all.

Yeah a little upset. Supposed to be our reliable family car. At least vw picked up the $700 tow.
