Perhaps the Bose has a bigger playback buffer? I dunno. No, they don't have hardware Bluetooth compression, it's done in software on the CPU, mainly as there are multiple different compression types and bitrates that can be negotiated too.
Reboot fixes it, having a huge performance handset fixes it, and sometimes shutting down all the background services can avoid a reboot.
