Front Tow Hook Cover Issue

A few weeks ago I found that the tow hook cover in my front bumper was gone.
I think someone may have yanked it off because it does have a tether. I ordered a new one and had it painted.

I received the painted tow eye cover and went to install it, but something doesn't look right to me. While it looks similar to other photos online of what the MK7 tow eye cover should look like, the one I received appears to me to be too small. There is a 4mm gap all the way around the cover where I seem to remember it being a much smaller seam. Also, it doesn't seem to fit into place like it should.

I have included pictures of the front cover (I took one picture with the cover backward so it is easier to see) as well as the existing rear cover on my car to demonstrate the difference in the gap. Does this look correct? Am I missing something?

Maybe it just needs another coat of paint
