Pardon my noobness but is there an difference between buying JB1 rev 1 that has been upgraded to JB4 vs buying the JB4 straight up? Will I be losing any functionality going with this vs getting a new JB4?

Functionality, no. However the harness on a new JB4 and on a REV2 JB1 is much nicer and there is 1 less plug needed on the JB4 and REV2 JB1 vs Rev 1 JB1 and Rev1 JB1 upgraded to JB4.

All models are compatible with one another within the MK7 platform.
