Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR

Price: 90 - 110,000 euros (est. 150-180,000 euros to include a six-series European race series with support)
Engine: 1984cc, 4cyl, turbocharged petrol
Layout: Front-engined, FWD
Gearbox: 6-spd dual-clutch auto
Power: 345bhp at 6200rpm
Torque: 310lb ft at 2500rpm
0-62mph: 5.2 seconds
Top speed: 143mph approx
Weight: 1285kg incl. driver

- Braking happens via ventilated front and solid rear discs, with six-piston callipers at the front and two-piston callipers at the back.

A little surprised that it isn't equipped with a more sophisticated braking system in the back, e.g., four piston calipers, 2 piece rotors, etc.

$100K Euros only gets you 345 bhp?? Obviously there's more to the car, but still. Thought I'd see some power/torque numbers at the higher end of the range. Stock turbo perhaps?

$100k euros gets you a fully built racecar developed around its class it’s designed to compete in hence the hp.

Thx - I guess that was a goofy comment. Just thinking out loud and not into car racing. Looks like it would get 'er done.

limited for its class and built with it in mind. Most of the cost go into development and all the requirements to race. That shit is $$$$$$$$$

I love that center console. I wonder if it could be installed in a regular production car.

Not even possible to buy. I have reached out multiple times to different teams such for TCR parts. Its nearly impossible to get anything.

So much more to race car development than "how much power you get". You probably have have $8kUSD worth of dampers on that car. Nevermind the brakes. Development time and manufacturing for all of the parts specific to that car. Building a race car is not cheap. Building a turn-key dead-nuts reliable race car with full menu of recommended setup sheets and such is even more expensive. While the output numbers and torque curves that I've seen seem to point towards still using the IS38 turbocharger...I'll bet you there are also specific pistons, rods, etc for that engine code.

You'd be surprised at how stock those engines are.

Remember the idea of the race series is to not make it a series of "whoever has the most money, wins" so there's a lot of regular off the shelf parts in there, hence the DSG option vs sequential only.

Engine wise, I would be hard pressed to see anything different past things like crankcase ventilation/windage setup and some sort of baffling in the oil system or even a dry sump set up along with the very obvious stuff, like the intake setup and the intercooler placement which both of the latter take advantage of some pretty trick airflow manipulation. Past that I would bet it's probably a pretty regular CYFB or CJXC with a very production crank, rods, and pistons. The high pressure side of fueling is probably stock, but with a fuel cell instead of a gas tank that has to have adjustable fill levels for competitive purposes, I am sure the pickup for the LPFP is baffled as well.
