Good afternoon
Here is a little write-up of an idea I saw on the VW America Golf Country Concept.
In the warning triangle recess inside the boot lid, they had installed a custom 3D printed LED down light to shine over the hatch opening for easier visibility when at night, camping or breaking down.
I saw the idea and wondered how it could be done better.
Their's was battery operated, so I'd wish mine to be powered. I dont know about switching, but I'd like mine to be automatic in some sense and bright!!
After taking measurements, I needed an LED strip no longer than 430mm, no wider than 46mm and not too thick.
While shopping at IKEA, I spotted an LED internal wardrobe light that was 420mm, infra-red sensor and bright.
The install:
Following doing the 12v socket constant live modification, I decided to wire it into the rear 12v lighter socket.
Wired it through the boot lid and hatch trim
*second white wire running side to side is the second fog light signal.
Then to mount the strip I purchased a custom block of acetal plastic 20mmx46mmx190mm which cost £3 - $4.
For safety Ive put the spade connectors accessible through the lock hole
Results:
In complete darkness
