I've seen some older threads discussing short shifter options, but they involve different combinations of shifters/bushings/brackets, etc.

I enjoy the 6MT in the GTI - I'm just looking for a more mechanical feeling shift with more positive feedback.

The OEM Euro short shifter (Audi S3?) shift bracket seems like a good deal at ~$60:

What are the best cable bushings to go with? There is this kit from 42DD, but it seems like a pain in the ass with the cutting and drilling:

And this more simpler kit from Torque Solutions, which seems much simpler:

Not really sure on the Delrin vs oil impregnated brass bearings, etc. Also, I'm not really trying to do anything with the cable bracket or bushings at this time, nor do I need a 35% or more throw reduction offered by some of the aftermarket manufacturers. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The S3 lever is nice if you're. It looking to really shorten your throw too much.. your current lever is 69mm from pin to fulcrum, the S3 lever is 60mm and alone will provide you with approx a 15% reduction in throw.

The oil impregnated bushings from 42DD are the way to go, however I'm not a fan of modifying that crappy plastic piece.. I highly recommend uprating your relay lever to an OEM metal one. This will allow you to use a $35 kit from 42DD which is a better kit than the kit with all the extra bits that you have to modify..

Problem with the OEM metal relay lever and our newer cars is the counterweight on MK6 and up is bigger and may hit the endlink on the metal relay lever.. therefore you need to grind down the counterweight..

The best setup IMHO is modified OEM lever with OEM metal relay lever and 42DD bushings

If you want to do less expensive, you could start by getting S3 lever and torque sol bushings.. but you're still stuck with that crappy plastic relay lever
