My headlights have marks on them which won't come off with claying. Any idea what's caused them and how to get rid of them. See photo

What if you had a shop treat them like they would treat paint that needed correction. I can’t recommend what lotions and potions to use but I bet a buffer could take care of that in 5 minutes with the right pad and compound.

Possibly rock stone chips?

Close; that's basically the same effect as being sandblasted, but the good news is there are many products on the market to correct it. I've used the 3M kit (power drill required) on my old car, with fantastic results.

Wet sanding it down and compounding and polishing will make them brand new, i had the same problem with mu mk7 GTI around 50,000 miles
