Hello/Bonjour,

I will be driving up to Montréal from the US for the Grand Prix in June with my youngest son. We are attending our first ever Formula 1 race. We are staying in Longueuil and plan to take the Metro to the circuit each day. We are sitting in Grandstand 1 in front of the pits and start/finish line.

Does anyone have any advice for a first time attendee? We attend a lot of racing, especially NASCAR, so we are pretty adept at packing food, drink, sunscreen, hearing protection, etc. I have read that the early June weather can be completely unpredictable there, ranging from hot and sunny to chilly and rainy, so I guess we'll keep an eye on the forecast and still pack for everything. I have heard that F1 does not broadcast their team communications in the clear, so our scanners are probably useless.

We're rolling in the GTI. I'll have my Escort Redline radar detector with me. I believe they are illegal in the eastern provinces. It's an invisible detector to police, so I'm hoping to run it low on my dash and mostly out of sight and not get in trouble. It will be completely put away at the border of course.

I haven't been to Quebec since the 1980s. We do have passports for this trip, which were not required back then. Looking forward to getting back up there. I guess I need to brush up on my French. :)
