Apologies for reviving an old thread.

Would 26" for both the front and fears make good sense? I'm asking in relation to the usual stiffer front setup.

That would actually be my preference if I had a mk7. Tightening up the rear more than you tighten the front will help even more to reduce understeer. I know some people that track their cars and only upgrade the rear bar. The only potential downside would be an inexperienced driver not having as much control of the car in an emergency situation - this is because understeer is easier to control than oversteer for most casual drivers.
