use an add a circuit/fuse module from the autoparts store, run the wire up your pillar (gotta remove it, and tuck in the front headliner, then run it out where the mirror wiring goes.

Good advice on the add a fuse. I did this as well. I did not remove the A pillar though. Not necessary.

One of the wires up there to the lights is a constant on that times out after the car goes to sleep. It's the thicker wire I believe it's brown?? Then there is a nut on the roof which you can use as a ground.

Also if your car has a rain sensor you can use the power from that but it is constant on forever, so you'll want to make sure you have a radar detector that can auto power down. Like the uniden LRD950 dfr7 or R3. Possibly other RD's that have GPS. I am currently using the rain sensor power and ground, as i have a detector that will shut itself off and those wires are super easy to access.

gtiscott,

I also have a rain sensor and just got a new radar detector. Can you please provide any info on which color wires to tap into for power and ground? I would like to tackle this over the weekend if possible.

Thanks!

My suggestion as the OP of this thread is to wire directly to the fuse box. My car doesn't have a rain sensor but just getting into the overhead console is a bit of a pain not to mention searching for the correct wires or terminal. I bought the Escort kit for my detector and ran the wires under the front of the headliner and down the A pillar into the fuse box. Buy a cheap set of plastic trim tools to help and it will take 15 minutes. I also have the remote kit to mute the detector when false alarms (ever present) happen. I mounted this on the dash right behind the turn signal stalk.
